Position Summary

The primary responsibilities of this position are to be responsible for marketing and promoting UWL Athletics, organizing special events, engaging the campus and community, creating game environment, overseeing the corporate partner program, and coordinating activities of the L-Club.

The position of Marketing & External Relations Coordinator will be a full-time, 12-month member of the staff in the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Intercollegiate Athletics Program. The coordinator will report directly to the Director of Athletics. The coordinator must conduct themselves in such a way as to enhance respect for the University, the program and UWL student-athletes.

Description of College / Department / Program / Division / Unit

The Division of Student Affairs’ role is to enhance and support students learning experience here at UWL . We work closely with faculty, staff, community members, alumni and most importantly, students to provide quality programs and services which promote learning, leadership, involvement, service, and the celebration of diversity. The Division includes several departments: Campus Child Center, Counseling and Testing, Student Health Center, Intercollegiate Athletics, Recreational Sports, Residence Life, Student Life, University Centers, and the Vice Chancellor & Dean of Students office. The staff of the Division is truly student-centered and concerned about the holistic development of the student.

The University of Wisconsin – La Crosse is a member of the respected Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and pride ourselves on a successful Division III athletic program with broad-based student participation and a balanced student-athlete philosophy. Our mission is “Building Champions. In Sport. In School. In Life.”. We have twenty-one intercollegiate athletic teams, and have won 71 national titles – the second most in the history of NCAA Division III . On average, we place 13th in the Learfield Director’s Cup. Student-athletes have had a higher GPA than the general student body for 19 of the last 20 years. Our program routinely participates in over 20 community service activities each year.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5 years of experience in marketing, promotions, and corporate sponsorships.
  • Excellent people skills, as evidenced by the ability to present clear and accurate information to small and large groups.
  • Excellent written communication skills, including proficiency in standard office applications.
  • General athletic administrative experience.




Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree
  • Professional experience within a Division III athletics program.
  • Experience supervising video board operations, graphic and video development.


Physical Demands

Generally an office setting environment, travel will be required.

• Some evening and weekend hours may be required depending on events occurring.

Duties to Support Responsibility

  • Create marketing, advertising, social media and in-game promotional plans for the program and individual sports with the goal of enhancing the image and creating brand awareness for UWL Athletics and increasing attendance at UWL Athletics events.
  • Working collaboratively with coaching and administrative staff, and other UWL departments to accomplish goals.
  • Manage game-day operations scripts and promotional activities.
  • Work with student groups to increase attendance at games by developing and executing initiatives to drive greater student support of, and attendance at, UWL Athletics events.
  • Develop and execute campus outreach plan to raise awareness of, and support for, UWL Athletics among campus constituencies, including faculty and staff.
  • Supervise student staff to implement various marketing initiatives.
  • Create graphics for video boards and/or promotional flyers.
  • Serve as the primary coordinator for athletic special events, including but not limited to L-Club events, Wall of Fame, Athletic Awards Banquet, youth initiatives, community outreach events, select alumni functions.

Corporate Sponsorships

Duties to Support Responsibility

  • Develop and oversee all corporate athletic partnerships, including but not limited to, the creation of official corporate opportunities lists; identification, cultivation, soliciting and stewarding of corporate partners; coordination of events for corporate partners as outlined in contracts; inventory advertising signage within athletic venues and game programs; and negotiation of all corporate athletic partnership agreements.
  • Develop and present materials formally soliciting sponsorship opportunities with potential corporate partners.
  • Ensure agreed-upon corporate entitlements are activated/fulfilled by working with event management staff to plan, coordinate, and implement all corporate sponsor activities and promotions.
  • Assist event management staff in the programming of the stadium scoreboard, including oversight of creation and production of video features sponsored by corporate partners.
  • Provide customer service as point-of-contact for all luxury suite holders. Coordinate with Facilities Director and Event Coordinator to manage operation of, and access to, luxury suites for various events.
