Job Summary:

Under the guidance of the Director of Digital Marketing within University Communications and Marketing, the Assistant Director of Social Media is responsible for providing oversight in the implementation of Miami University’s social media strategy and the day-to-day management of Miami’s primary social media accounts.

The Assistant Director of Social Media oversees Miami’s interactions with the public on a variety of social platforms. The position leads a social media team in planning, writing, editing, and producing creative and engaging social media content that supports student recruitment, retention, community building, and elevates Miami University’s reputation and brand. The position will analyze data and identify trends in user interactions that will inform content development and community interactions in meaningful ways.

The successful candidate is an excellent communicator who is self-motivated, detail-oriented, resourceful, organized, adaptable, efficient, collaborative, and highly creative. The position requires expert knowledge of social media platforms, excellent writing and editing skills, and proficient data analytics experience to drive account growth, engagement, and impact.

The position will manage full-time staff and student interns/workers by providing them with hands-on opportunities for growth and resources for success.

 

Duties/Physical Demands:
— Lead the day-to-day management of Miami’s primary social media accounts and the implementation of Miami’s social media strategy.
— Plan impactful and engaging content for all social media platforms, including writing social media posts and planning and creating compelling visuals.
— Lead the development of the social media content calendars for each publishing period as determined by UCM leadership.
— Create methodology to ensure that the social media calendar includes balanced content that is consistent with the University’s brand identity, audiences, and priorities.
— Develop and implement a social communications plan and serve as the community manager on the University’s primary social media accounts, engaging users and responding to their questions on time.
— Collaborate and provide strategic counsel to social media managers across the University.
— Build relationships with key affiliate social media accounts across the University.
— Contribute to social media policy development, implementation, and enforcement.
— Use analytical tools and insights to monitor and evaluate the university’s social media accounts’ performance, and make adjustments for optimal results.
— Work with news writers, designers, and copywriters on creating informative, attractive, and compelling visual content including images, graphics, GIFs, and videos.
— Identify, engage, and manage relationships with social media influencers.
— Support the creation of monthly social media reports.
— Help in the creation and optimization of social listening reports.
— Assist the crisis communications team in optimum and timely postings and social communications strategies if/when an incident occurs.
— Stay current on best practices and emerging trends.
— Set and adhere to content deadlines.
— Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:
— Bachelor's degree and at least two years of professional experience managing and developing content for social media accounts for a business or organization.
— Expert knowledge of social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Twitter, and TikTok.
— Experience using social media management systems, such as Sprout Social and/or Hootsuite.
— Excellent communication, writing, and editing skills.
— Ability to multitask, manage timelines, and meet deadlines.
— Ability to work independently and within a team to develop content ideas and follow them through to completion.
