Job Summary

Smith College School for Social Work (SSW) seeks digital marketing coordinator to create and manage content in support of SSW’s digital marketing efforts. Applicants should bring creative energy and technical knowledge to help maximize the impact of SSW’s digital communications across social media, email marketing and the website. The ideal candidate will be creative and nimble, able to cover and craft stories in real-time, understand and produce engaging content specific to various platforms, collaborate across SSW departments to determine effectiveness of each initiative and act to alter strategic messaging when needed. The candidate should have a demonstrated professional and personal commitment to SSW’s five guiding principles and be able to take appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participate in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.

Create and manage content in support of SSW’s digital marketing efforts. Apply creative energy and technical knowledge to maximize impact of SSW’s digital communications platforms including the website, social media and email marketing tools. Track data and analytics for all digital platforms and use it to determine effectiveness of each initiative and to alter strategic messaging when needed. Help to identify best methods for reaching both internal and external audiences. Support communications manager in writing, proofreading and editing of electronic and print communications. Demonstrate professional and personal commitment to SSW’s five guiding principles.

Take appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participate in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.

Essential Functions

Social Media (25%)

  • Lead content creation, community management and day-to-day monitoring for SSW

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive social media strategy that serves recruitment and engagement goals and fosters lifelong connections ·with SSW

  • Identify opportunities to produce content related to the SSW brand that follows cultural trends and relevant societal topics

  • Use analytics to make informed decisions regarding social engagement and to determine effectiveness in meeting the school’s goals for enrollment, event attendance and professional education growth

  • Increase alumni engagement, event attendance and annual giving through organic and paid social promotion

  • Drive Professional Education course enrollment through organic and paid promotion

  • Raise visibility of the School through organic and paid promotions

  • Collaborate with SSW departments on the creation of content for digital ad campaigns

Email Marketing (25%)

  • Create and send mass emails using Pardot

  • Review analytics to recommend actionable changes to email strategy with the goal of increasing engagement and optimizing results

  • Report and provide recommendations on the email program performance on a monthly basis

Website (25%)

  • Support communications manager in updating and maintaining Drupal website

  • Monitor Google analytics and compile and submit regular traffic updates to inform website updates and changes

  • Develop and post news and events content for use on website and across social media

  • Brainstorm new ideas for maximizing the site's capabilities

Writing, Proofreading, Editing (20%)

  • Draft short articles for the website and local print media to highlight accomplishments of students, faculty, and alumni

  • Proofread and edit longer articles for print publication

  • Assist in the production of electronic and print publications

  • Work with department manager and outside vendors to ensure timely production of publications

  • Serve on the editorial team for InDepth, the School’s alumni magazine

Other Functions

Other duties as assigned (5%)

Minimum Qualifications (knowledge, skills, education, experience, certifications, licenses)

Associate’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations or related field and three to five years of direct experience in social media, email marketing, communications or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree preferred.


Comprehensive knowledge of communications concepts; demonstrated capacity with writing and editing using AP Style; knowledge and experience working with websites, and Drupal in particular; knowledge of and design experience with Adobe Creative Cloud helpful; expert-level understanding of social media platforms and their audiences; understanding of new and emerging media platforms and ability to adapt and grow to changing media trends; experience with email marketing and email marketing software, particularly Pardot; proficiency with DSLR cameras, video production equipment and other accessories or willingness to learn; ability to work independently and with faculty, administrators, staff and outside vendors; good judgment; enthusiastic; creative and self-motivated individual who shares the mission and priorities of the School for Social Work.

Must have a demonstrated record of engaging in a collegial and productive manner; must be able to work with SSW colleagues to advance the School’s goal to not only understand how racism operates within our School but to create a School where Black faculty students, indigenous folks and folks of color can bring their whole selves, hold positions of leadership and thrive; be able to demonstrate their commitments to the School’s Five Guiding Principles.
