Position Description

Provides primary care as part of a health care team in an ambulatory setting in a particular discipline. Provides patient education and counseling as well as physical assessment. May participate in teaching programs for students and other student residents. Major/Essential Functions

This is an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in the TTUHSC SON Combest clinics. Exciting opportunity to implement a comprehensive, evidence-based practice and to work with an interdisciplinary team for educational and research development in primary care.

The employee in this position provides care as part of a health care team in an ambulatory setting as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Provides patient education and counseling as well as psychiatric assessment and medication management. May participate in teaching programs for students and other student residents. Work is performed under usual clinic conditions and requires a high degree of contact with patients, families, and other clinic personnel and outside professionals. Some positions in the classification require travel to outreach clinics and home visits, and participation in educational efforts and special
programs that occur outside of normal working hours.
  • Provide psychiatric care as a part of a healthcare team in an ambulatory setting.
  • Provide patient education and counseling.
  • Conduct patient health and physical assessments.
  • May participate in teaching programs and serve as a preceptor for teaching programs for students as identified by the department and supervisor.
  • May require travel to outreach clinics and home visits.
  • Required to participate in educational efforts and special programs that may occur outside an of normal working hours.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse patient population.
  • Required to complete all training required by the institution and department by deadlines identified.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with the healthcare team and other entities.
  • Required to complete patient charts and enter data into the Electronic Health Records (EHR) meeting deadlines identified by the department.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification as a Psych Mental Health Nurse Practitioner from an approved certification program as recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing as an advanced practice registered nurse.
  • Experience as a Psych Mental Health NP nurse practitioner.

  • Experience in providing psych mental health care as a Psych Mental Health NP in a medical setting, preferably in an ambulatory setting.

  • CompletionGraduate of an accredited school of nursing Master of Nursing (MSN) program.

  • Basic Life Support certification.

  • Candidates for the position should have an outstanding reputation in the delivery of psychiatric care services, with significant experience in psychiatric care.

  • Experience using electronic health records (EHR) software systems with experience in documentation in medical records.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and written with patients, staff, and other entities.
  • Ability to demonstrate working knowledge of current healthcare practices.
  • Demonstrate good time management skills.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills.

Required Qualifications

Education: Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program. License/Certification: Current RN license in the State of Texas or have the ability to transfer your license to Texas. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner in the appropriate nursing specialty from an approved certification program as recognized by the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners. Recognition by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners as an Advance Practitioner.

Submit verification of advanced nurse practitioner certification in Psychiatric Mental Health recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing (BON), and verification of nursing license to practice in Texas.
