Job Description:

The School of the Arts is looking for a dynamic, experienced, student-centered educator to teach a survey course in Introduction to Visual Art during the 2021 fall semester. The College seeks Adjunct Faculty who focus on experiential learning and active engagement in their classrooms. Adjuncts chosen to teach at Dean College create a compelling and professional learning environment for students of diverse learning backgrounds. For the Fall 2021 semester, adjuncts should be prepared to be flexible as both online and face-to-face teaching modalities are expected to be offered with potential requirement to switch from face-to-face to online, as needed in response to conditions.

 

We are seeking an adjunct instructor to teach ART 101: Introduction To Visual Art. This is a 3-credit course which meets two times a week for 75 minutes. The adjunct pay rate is $3,200.00/section. Adjunct faculty are expected to hold one office hour each week for each section they teach. Adjunct faculty are expected to hold one office hour each week for each section they teach.

The School of the Arts provides a course charter with course objectives and learning outcomes and sample syllabi. While Dean College intends to hold classes face-to-face in the fall 2021 semester, all faculty will be expected to make active use of the learning management system Canvas at least at a minimum level established by the College.

The course description is as follows:

ART 101: Introduction to Visual Art - An introduction to ways of seeing and discussing art from around the world, including examples of painting, sculpture, prints, photography, architecture, and other historical and contemporary media. This course is designed to help students develop an understanding of the form and expression of works of art.

We are looking to fill two sections of ART 101, which are scheduled as follows:

  • Tuesday/Thursday - 2:00 pm - 3:15 pm
  • Tuesday/Thursday - 3:30 pm - 4:45 pm

Requirements:

  • A Master's Degree in a related field, required;
  • Experience teaching at the college level both in person and online, required;
  • Strong computer skills, required;
  • Ability and willingness to be responsive and supportive to students through college online resources and digital tools, required;
  • Experience with or willingness to learn Canvas, our learning management system, and classroom media, required;
  • Expertise in learner-centered teaching, required;
  • Experience using technologies and/or strategies to enhance pedagogy, required;
  • Experience and ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse student body with a variety of learning styles, required;
  • COVID-19 Vaccination, required.
