The Department of Theatre and Dance at The College of Wooster invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Dance, beginning in August 2022.

The College of Wooster Department of Theatre and Dance is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Dance. The ideal candidate must be trained in modern dance and be able to teach the required Contemporary Dance History, Dance in World Cultures, and Choreography courses to majors and non-majors. Our department is committed to the teaching of a wide range of social and cultural dance traditions and histories. For this reason, we are especially interested in candidates who can expand our curriculum to include diverse and global styles, techniques, and perspectives in their courses.

The candidate will be expected to serve as producer for two dance productions each year, advise the student-led Dance Company, participate in departmental and campus-wide service activities, engage in scholarship and professional creative activity, and mentor student dancers in the College’s signature Senior Independent Study program. Candidates must hold a graduate degree (MFA or PhD preferred). College level teaching experience also preferred. The Department of Theatre and Dance offers a BA degree in a variety of areas including dance, directing, acting, playwriting, stage management, and design/technology and emphasizes student education in artistry, scholarship, and advocacy. The College of Wooster enrolls a diverse student body (24% domestic students of color and 17% international students); all applicants are expected to discuss their experience working with diverse student populations.

A complete application will include: a cover letter; CV; teaching statement; an online portfolio with samples of your choreography; a statement detailing how the applicant has engaged and/or expects to engage with issues of diversity and inclusion in the classroom and the curriculum, as well as on campus; and three reference letters through Interfolio. Deadline to apply: October 15. With questions regarding Interfolio, please contact Patrice Smith, Administrative Coordinator, at psmith@wooster.edu. Questions about the position should be directed to Dr. Jimmy A. Noriega, Chair of Search Committee, at jnoriega@wooster.edu.
