Bachelor’s degree in higher education, business, or related field. Master’s degree preferred. Seven years of experience within the field of career development, higher education, recruitment, or related field. Previous experience leading teams and supervising staff. Experience in a state institution of higher education is desirable. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of education. Nature & Purpose of Position
Serves as SHSU’s senior leadership in creating a campus ecosystem that transforms the career development experience of all students. Works closely with University administrators to launch and implement a new vision, strategy, and create a new office to foster changes. Primary Responsibilities
Serves as an innovator and transformational leader dedicated to transforming the lives of students and preparing them for a life of meaningful career success after graduation from Sam Houston State University ( SHSU ). Establishes and oversees a newly created office committed to transforming the career development experience at SHSU, including the development of strategic priorities, new initiatives, and metrics of success. Creates and implements scaled career development solutions which are integrated throughout the curricular and co-curricular experiences of students at SHSU . Hires, leads, and mentors career staff to create meaningful impact for a diverse student population. Empowers a team to innovate and take strategic risks in increasing the reach and impact of office activities. Regularly measures and assesses the effectiveness of career development efforts with a strong focus on continuous improvement and reaching all students. Spearheads the development, collection, and synthesis of relevant career data to assess the impact of career efforts and tell the story of success to prospective students, campus constituents, employers, and external stakeholders including state officials. Develops and executes a comprehensive communication strategy to promote the vision, direction, and services for multiple audiences, including students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Connects regularly with deans, faculty, staff, and other key stakeholders in efforts to foster a strong career ecosystem. Intentionally grows the number and diversity of connections with local, regional, and national employers and organizations. Manages and oversees the budget, including identifying new opportunities to generate revenue for the office and campus partners. Works closely with the academic advising team, divisional contacts, and academic affairs partners to build out a scaled and embedded model of career development through the student lifecycle. Builds a new brand and hires a team to effectively carry out a new vision. Performs other related duties as assigned. Other Specifications
Proven track record of creating initiatives which result in scalable and systemic change. Demonstrated success in leading complex networks towards desired outcomes and goals. Experience with building strong partnerships with external constituents. Strong ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, from students to University leadership. Aptitude for understanding data to evaluate and assess the effectiveness of work and initiatives. Previous experience leading a career development office within the University. Evidence of thought- leadership within the field of career development and higher education.
