Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities
VCU’s Facilities Management Department is seeking to hire a Groundskeeper within their Physical Plant unit to maintain a healthy, safe, attractive landscape on the Academic and Medical Campuses. Complete assignments in a timely manner in accordance with department standards. Observe and report waste/landscape maintenance needs. Inform supervisor of problems with particular task and seek direction. Weekends (Saturday and Sunday), holidays and special events (after hours) as needed. Minimum Hiring Standards

• A high school diploma or GED .
• Able to perform a repetitive, physically demanding task daily.
• Able to safely operate vehicles in a congested environment.
• Able to work and communicate effectively with others.
• Able to read, write and speak English.
• Able to use a personal computer to enter accurate time cards and charge time against multiple work requests.
• General knowledge of professional landscape maintenance practices and grounds equipment and the safe operation of same.
• A valid Virginia Driver License is required
• Nights weekends and holidays may be required during special events, emergencies and inclement weather
• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU .
• Other duties as assigned

Preferred Hiring Standards
At least one year of residential, commercial, municipal, park, turf or horticulture experience working is preferred.
VDACS Pesticide Registered Technician or Commercial Applicator Certification in category 3A or #B is preferred.
