Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities
The Office of Development and Alumni Relations seeks a creative individual with an eye for design and details to join our team. The Creative Media Coordinator enhances the university’s relationship with alumni and donors through the creation of timely and compelling multimedia communications. The key objective and responsibilities include:

  • Identify, research and create multimedia content and coordinate photo and video shoots for print and electronic communications (magazines, brochures, newsletters, e-newsletters, e-solicitations, digital ads, social media and websites).
  • Brainstorm and develop multimedia features, interview subjects and shoot and edit videos for posting.
  • Actively contribute to the communications and marketing team, providing creative ideas and strategies to achieve Development and Alumni Relations goals.
  • Manage digital assets and share files as needed.
  • Support the assistant director of creative media content in the production of larger multimedia projects.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
Minimum Hiring Standards
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, art, marketing or related field required.
  • 2-3 years of professional experience in photography and videography, with an emphasis on higher education or nonprofit setting.
  • Proficiency in photo/video editing software (Adobe Premiere, Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Audition, Adobe After Effects and Adobe Photoshop).
  • Excellent interpersonal and interviewing skills.
  • Trustworthiness and superior ability to serve as a brand ambassador for the university and to navigate challenges.
  • Strategic thinker who can enhance DAR’s presence as the communications landscape changes.
  • Aptitude to develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to anticipate client and subject needs.
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to communicate and present ideas accurately and clearly.
  • Ability to work with details and deadlines to manage demanding workload.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Must be skilled at building relationships and must maintain complete confidentiality.
  • Must be flexible and be available 8-5 M-F (and sometimes after hours and on weekends) to work at events and to conduct photo/video shoots.
  • Must be able to occasionally travel for assignments.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a university professional at VCU .
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds, handle and operate photography/videography equipment.




Preferred Hiring Standards
  • Professional work experience in the communications field preferred.
  • Experience working in higher education with a demonstrated understanding of a large, complex research university with an academic medical center.
  • Experience with closed captioning.
  • Familiarity with digital asset management software.
  • Experience with motion graphics or digital animation.
  • Ability to update web content in T4 CMS .
  • Experience with livestream event coverage.
  • Experience using project management software.
  • Knowledge of AP style.
