A.T. Still University's Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health (ATSU-ASDOH) invites applications for an exempt Associate Clinical Director, AEGD, on the Mesa, Arizona campus. This position will conduct teaching, patient care, scholarly and service activities in support of the mission, goals and objectives of the School and University with primary responsibility for general dental patient care in the ACC clinic and the clinical education and mentoring of AEGD residents to assure attainment of postdoctoral-level clinical competency that integrates biomedical, behavioral and clinical sciences.

Major Job Duties:
  • General – conduct teaching, scholarship, service and patient care in support of the mission and goals of ASDOH and ATSU. Promote an atmosphere of respect, collegiality, commitment to diversity and social justice, and humanistic learning environment.
  • Teaching – In collaboration with other responsible faculty and administrators, provide clinical supervision of AEGD residents in general dentistry that integrates biomedical, behavioral and clinical sciences, and effectively carry out supporting lecture, seminar, and other didactic instruction for the AEGD program residents.
  • Patient Care and Treatment - Provide direct patient care in the ACC that supports community service, efficient clinic operations, student/resident education, or when in the best interest of the patient.
  • Administration – Manage administrative aspect of clinical education in AEGD program as assigned by the Clinic Director consistent with program goals and accreditation.
  • Service – Participate in committees, faculty governance, professional societies and associations, community events, and provision of CE.
  • Scholarship - Establish and maintain scholarly and/or research activity in area of expertise, at level consistent with scheduled annual workload.
Job Responsibilities:
  • AEGD Resident Education, Management and Progress : Supervise, manage, monitor, and mentor AEGD residents as they develop and work through the clinical educational goals of the program including patient treatment plans, the application and integration of knowledge, skills and values in delivering general dental care and treatment to patients of all ages; develop resident remediation plans as required in collaboration with Clinic and Program Directors; review and approve resident treatment plans, progress notes, and coordination of specialist care.
  • Administration : Assist in the development and coordination of the AEGD clinic educational experience in collaboration with Clinic and Program Directors; attend/conduct daily/weekly meetings with resident, students, faculty, and staff to review issues/events/achievement; assist in program accreditation process; assist in training of program staff and faculty to achieve clinical calibration for resident experiences, competencies and assessment; complete administrative reports as assigned; assist in supervision of staff to insure proper support for residents and efficient clinic operations; screen new patients to determine appropriateness for ACC Clinic and provide adequate patient experiences for residents; oversee the selection and maintenance of adequate inventory of instrument, materials and supplies in coordination with Clinic Director and staff; assist in the hiring and evaluation of staff; participate in resident admissions process.
  • Patient Care and Treatment: Provide direct patient care in the ACC that supports community service, efficient clinic operations, student/resident education, or when in the best interest of the patient.
  • Incumbent is responsible for proving clinical dentistry to patients during non-teaching time and/or times of revenue deficiencies.

  • Other duties as assigned.
Skills/Requirements:
  • D.D.S./ D.M.D from a CODA-Accredited program; AEGD/GPR residency preferred.
  • Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD), General Practice Residency (GPR), or equivalent

  • At least 3 years’ experience in a dental teaching environment
  • At least 5 years’ experience in private practice or other facility where advanced general dentistry techniques were performed (may include time in residency training)
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

  • Must be able to be self-directed and take the initiative.
  • Must be highly skilled in general dentistry and advanced restorative techniques. (ie; Digital dentistry, CBCT)

  • Diplomacy a must. Individual must be organized. Good communication skills. Adaptable and motivated. Able to work independently.

  • Team oriented, strong mentoring, and personable.
