TRIO Upward Bound Science Instructor (Grant-Funded, Part-Time Temporary)

Montgomery County Community College invites applications for the TRIO Upward Bound Science Instructor position.  The Upward Bound Program is seeking creative, energetic, and enthusiastic instructors interested in a fixed-term, summer teaching opportunity at the Pottstown campus. Upward Bound is a college preparatory program designed to motivate and prepare selected high school students for the successful pursuit of a college and career interests.

 

This grant-funded position will develop a non-traditional Science curriculum which includes lab science and basic concepts of high school Biology. The focus of this class is to reinforce skills learned during the past academic year, and to introduce skills to be learned during the coming academic year through various enrichment activities and lessons. Upward Bound summer participants are rising 9th, 10th and 11th graders from diverse backgrounds and cultures with differing academic abilities and learning styles.

 

This grant funded position entails teaching during the 6-week Summer Academy from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Mondays through Thursdays from July 6, 2021 – August 13, 2021 with mandatory orientation, training, and lesson planning. The position also entails teaching on Academic Saturdays, taking place on each Saturday morning from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon.

*This is a temporary grant paid position and is contingent upon grant funding.

**This position requires the PA Child Abuse, PA State Police and FBI Fingerprinting clearances.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.S. or B.A. with a strong background in science
  • Pennsylvania teacher certification and two years experience teaching science at the high school level or higher
  • Experience in developing a biology curriculum that addresses the individual needs of students and nontraditional methods.
  • Experience in providing educational services to low-income and first-generation college students.
