Each year, the Yale Institute of Sacred Music (ISM) brings a diverse cohort of scholars and practitioners at all career stages to pursue scholarly and creative projects relating to the sacred, and informed by various interdisciplinary perspectives. 

Fellows also have the option to teach interdisciplinary courses based on their area of research at Yale.

The ISM seeks to prioritize applicants for our annual long-term fellowships in several areas of teaching and research during the current cycle, including projects that study the sacred arts and ritual spheres of African American, Africana, Latinx, and/or Indigenous studies. Two new areas of interest during the current application cycle are projects that study music and the Black church and scholars working at intersection of religion, ecology, and the arts. There is the possibility of multi-year appointments in all of these targeted areas of research.
