The Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work at Auburn University at Montgomery ( AUM ) is searching for two colleagues to join our department as either an assistant professor in Social Work (tenure-track, a doctorate required) or a clinical assistant professor in Social Work (non-tenured), depending on candidate qualifications. These are 9-month appointments with one preferably starting in January 2022 and the other in August 2022, alternatively, both appointments are eligible to start in August 2022. Candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to social justice, undergraduate teaching, field education, and community service. The Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work includes seven full-time faculty. In addition to the Social Work and Sociology majors, the department offers minors in Child Advocacy Studies, Sociology, and Anthropology and an Alcohol and Substance Abuse certificate program. We have a well-established Pre-Social Work Program and our new BSW program is on track to enter Candidacy with CSWE during the 2021–2022 academic year. AUM’s BSW program, grounded in a liberal arts perspective, educates social workers to be ethical and competent practitioners who intervene and advocate for social and economic justice across all systems levels (individuals, families, groups, community, and society) while utilizing a generalist perspective within a person-in-environment context. The mission of our program is to promote a commitment to professional ethics and values, critical thinking, professionalism, lifelong learning, evidence-based practice, strengths-based perspective, economic and social justice, and service. Additionally, the program is committed to culturally competent practice, social change, and the betterment of individuals, families, groups, community and society in order to create a more just society locally, nationally, and globally.

Duties for this appointment include teaching core and area of specialization undergraduate Social Work courses, advising students, maintaining a productive research agenda (assistant) or a productive community-involvement agenda (clinical), and adding to the service mission of the campus. The ideal candidate will have a teaching and/or research specialization in substance abuse, direct practice, and/or social justice.
