Gun Shop Project – Project Manager

Job Summary

The Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence’s (CSPV) Gun Shop Project – Project Manager will support the CSPV research and evaluation team with the operational duties of project management, partner coordination and collaboration, project reporting, and overseeing independent contractors for an evaluation of the Gun Shop Project (GSP). The successful candidate will have experience managing projects in a social science research/evaluation environment. This project aims to conduct an evaluation of the Gun Shop Project in Colorado (process evaluation) and nationally (outcome evaluation). Gun Shop Projects are community-driven suicide prevention partnerships between the firearms community (firearm retailers, ranges, and other businesses) and local public or community health agencies. The implementation of the GSP is run through the Colorado Department of Public Health (CDPHE). This role will partner closely with the implementation team at the CDPHE to ensure research and evaluation activities are well aligned with implementation. An essential component of this position will include interaction with community members from a wide range of backgrounds and political affiliations, including firearm retailers, ranges, instructors, second amendment (2A) organizations, and the public health community. The ideal candidate will understand the importance of partnering with the firearms community in preventing suicide deaths by firearms and have the skills needed to facilitate conversations on sensitive topic areas to sustain forward progress of the work. The candidate should have excellent communication and leadership skills, and be detail-oriented, innovative, adaptable, and solution-focused. This position reports to the CSPV Research Director. CSPV is housed within the Institute of Behavioral Science at the University of Colorado Boulder.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Project Management

• Manage overall GSP evaluation project, including schedule, timeline, and research activities.
• Support and monitor progress on research and evaluation team in all aspects of conducting high-quality research, including development, administration, quality assurance, analysis, and reporting.
• Facilitate communication among GSP project partners (study investigators, external stakeholders, study participants, and research and evaluation team) to maintain information flow as determined or needed.
• Coordinate hiring and training of Research Assistants in the data collection protocol and collaboration between Research Assistants and Firearm Advocates.
• Other duties as assigned by the supervisor and/or desired by the employee.

GSP Partner Coordination and Collaboration

• Develop and facilitate decision-making structures to ensure collaboration between partners, stakeholders, and the research team.
• Serve as primary point of contact for all project stakeholders (internal and external) on information sharing, and coordination and communication around research/evaluation activities.
• Other duties as assigned by the supervisor and/or desired by the employee.

GSP Project Reporting

• Ensure compliance with and meet deadlines on deliverables for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) grant requirements.
• Create project communications, including drafting reports, developing presentations, and creating executive findings for project stakeholders.
• Attend CDC site visits and conferences.
• Other duties as assigned by the supervisor and/or desired by the employee.

Overseeing GSP Independent Contractors

• Recruit and hire independent contractors (research assistants, graduate students, undergraduate students, or other temporary employees) to collect data for the project.
• Onboard and supervise independent contractors to understand research objectives and partnership goals, and undertake specific project activities related to data collection.
• Monitor independent contractor achievement of project activities.
• Other duties as assigned by the supervisor and/or desired by the employee.

Service to the Organization

• Contribute to a positive, healthy, inclusive, and safe work environment.
• Serve on ad hoc action teams to provide input and guide organizational decision-making, operations, and execution of the CSPV vision, direction, and strategy.
• Contribute to advancing equity and anti-racism initiatives at CSPV.
• Other duties as assigned by the supervisor and/or desired by the employee.

What You Should Know

• Willingness and ability to travel in-state and out-of-state to support projects or attend conferences, averaging up to 5% of time.
• Must have a reliable vehicle to travel.
• Continued funding for this position would be dependent on additional grant funds for the Gun Shop Project, or may come from research projects from other funding sources.

What We Can Offer

Salary Range: $60,000.00-$75,000.00.

What We Require

• Master’s degree in a social science/public health field or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years’ experience in project management in a social science/public health field.
• Research and evaluation experience.
• Prior experience working directly with stakeholders from a wide range of backgrounds and political affiliations.

What We Would Like You To Have

• Evidence of project management training or certification (e.g. Scrum, Agile, PMP, Coursera, LinkedIn Learning).
• Working knowledge of software applications for data collection (Qualtrics, REDCap).
• Familiarity/experience with suicide prevention and firearms safety.
• Demonstrated success supporting diversity and inclusive excellence in a work environment.
