Job Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Athletics Director, Development, the Assistant Director – Ticket Sales and Donor Services builds meaningful relationships with alumni and friends of San Jose State University to identify, qualify, cultivate, ask, and steward donors/prospects for annual giving and sell season tickets for One Spartan Nation areas at Football and Basketball. Additionally, the Assistant Director is an active collaborator and team member with the outbound ticket sales and donor services team and is responsible for high level coordination with the Assistant AD for Annual Giving regarding One Spartan Nation annual giving campaigns; as well as high level coordination and teamwork with University Advancement and Athletics. A key role of the incumbent is driving season ticket sales, One Spartan Nation annual gift renewals and securing new annual gifts through meaningful relationships with alumni, students, faculty, staff, parents and friends of San Jose State.

This is a position in the CSU - Management Personnel Plan (MPP), and serves at the pleasure of the President. This position will require adherence to University compliance training such as: Conflict of Interest and Ethics, AB 1825 Sexual Harassment Prevention, Information Security, and Injury and Illness Prevention Program. The person hired for this position may be required to complete an outside employment disclosure statement in accordance with Title V of the California Code of Regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute outbound phone calls, texts, emails, and other effective communication strategies to sell season tickets for San Jose State Football and Basketball.
  • Collaborate with the outbound ticket sales and services team in the Ticket Office regarding season ticket renewals, upgrades of existing season ticket holder seating, new season ticket sales and business/corporate engagement in the ticket sales process.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Athletics Director for Premium Seating and Development and Assistant Athletics Director for Ticket Operations regarding the sale of suites, club seats and courtside seats for Football and Basketball.
  • Assist the Deputy Director of Athletics Development and the Assistant Athletics Director for Annual Giving to develop strategies to increase membership acquisition and retention for the Athletics annual giving program. Develop strategies to increase membership acquisition and retention for the Athletics annual giving program, and assist with annual giving events/hospitality when necessary.
  • Execute sport-specific annual giving and other fundraising efforts particularly with outbound phone calls, texts, and other effective communication strategies.
  • Execute annual giving strategies for former athletes, alumni and friends in concert with all 22 athletics programs and their head coaches.

  • Ability to build meaningful relationships of trust that lead to philanthropic giving to San José State Athletics
  • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a collaborative team
  • Sensitivity and understanding of Title IX issues, and an innate ability to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Skillful in networking and opening doors as well as developing donor-centric cultivation and solicitation strategies
  • Ability to navigate the institution/assigned unit and make the appropriate match for donor interests
  • Ability to engage and support volunteer leadership with their efforts in fundraising, consultation, and advocacy
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
  • Skillful in successfully managing multiple projects on tight deadlines and under pressure in a dynamic and open environment
  • Knowledge of the dynamics that athletes and coaches must navigate in higher education
  • Knowledge of NCAA Division I (FBS) intercollegiate athletics
  • Knowledge of NCAA and conference guidelines, policies, rules and regulations
  • Proficient in Google docs and ability to learn tech platforms as needed
  • Knowledge of the academic enterprise and the ability to articulate academic values internally and externally


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum of one year’ athletic administration or coaching
  • Minimum of one-year knowledge and expertise working on the SJSU campus




Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Two years in athletics development or revenue generation


Compensation

Classification: Administrator II
Hiring Range: Commensurate with experience
