The Department of Psychology at Virginia Commonwealth University invites applications for a beginning tenure-track position in the Behavioral Medicine concentration of our top 50-ranked and American Psychological Association ( APA )-accredited Clinical Psychology doctoral program. This nine-month position is at the rank of Assistant Professor. The expected appointment date is August 16, 2022.

This tenure-line position in Clinical Psychology is critical to bolstering teaching and research priorities and goals in the program. This position will also fuel the department’s undergraduate teaching mission by filling critical classes. Position Responsibilities
This tenure-line position in Clinical Psychology is critical to bolstering teaching and research priorities and goals in the program. This position will also fuel the department’s undergraduate teaching mission by covering critical classes.

This faculty member will possess an established research agenda that is reflected in a content area within Clinical Health Psychology, and thus will be expected to accrue external funding, disseminate their work, and engage in scholarship to complement and expand existing expertise in the department.

Current faculty have research programs that focus on primary care psychology, sleep across the lifespan, and substance use. A program of research with a focus on adults, as opposed to children, is required.

Specific research focus within clinical health psychology is open. Research areas of particular interest include, but are not limited to, the following: health disparities, pain, psycho-oncology, and cardiac psychology. The ideal candidate will work effectively with other disciplines and medical clinics on the VCU Health campus and be willing to collaborate within the program and department, where a wide range of researchers are focused on health psychology topics.

Course assignments within the graduate and undergraduate curricula will vary based on the candidate’s interest and expertise and needs of the program.
Required Qualifications
The successful candidate will be required to have a Ph.D. from an APA - or CPA -accredited Clinical Psychology program and be licensed or license-eligible as a Clinical Psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The successful candidate must also have an academic record likely to produce success in the Department of Psychology at a Carnegie Research-1 Institution. As a result, an established research agenda that is reflected in content area within Clinical Health Psychology, potential for accruing external funding and disseminating their work, potential for scholarship to complement and expand existing expertise in the Department, and commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in their research and teaching will be the primary criteria used to evaluate applicants.

Demonstrated experience working in and with a diverse faculty, staff, client/patient, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU is required.

Current area faculty have research programs that focus on primary care psychology, sleep across the lifespan, and substance use. A program of research with a focus on adults, as opposed to children, is required. Specific research focus within clinical health psychology is open.

The ideal candidate will also have (1) evidence of an emerging active research program that includes a history of research grants or strong potential for future funding; (2) demonstrated excellence in undergraduate and/or graduate instruction and mentoring; and (3) demonstrated commitment to human diversity and social justice, with the ability to advance the Department’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion through community-engaged research, teaching, and outreach with relevant programs, and activities.
