LAR Facility Manager
Location: Moscow

Pay Range: $46,358 annually or higher depending on experience
Full/Part Time: Full Time
Position Summary:
Responsible for the day-to-day supervision and overall management of laboratory animal care personnel and the Gibb Hall laboratory animal research facility (LARF). Primary duties include procurement of animals and research supplies, ensuring compliance with animal welfare and institutional regulations within the facility, and establishing an adequate care regimen for animals used and house within the LARF. Other aspects include the hiring, training, and supervision of laboratory animal technicians and other part-time personnel, scheduling use of animal holding facilities, implementing/evaluating new procedures, ensuring animals receive proper veterinary care, and helping investigators determine appropriate animal models and techniques to be used to achieve the best outcome in their research. The individual holding this position may be asked to serve as a member of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee.
This position is considered essential university personnel, and as such is required to respond (or delegate response) after hours and during university emergencies and closures.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in science related field or certification as an American Association for Laboratory Animal Science Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) If incumbent does not have AALAS LATG certification at time of hire, employment will be contingent upon achieving certification within a reasonable period as established by supervisor.
- 1.5 years experience working (or full-time equivalent of 3,120 hrs) in a laboratory animal facility
Experience:
- Supervising, instructing and training staff
- Working harmoniously and effectively with faculty, staff, co-workers, technicians and vendors
- Working independently
- Implementing university and departmental policies and/or programs
- Developing and maintaining computerized record systems
- Performing long-range facility planning
- Foreseeing animal care and facility needs
- Communicating effectively and professionally both verbally and in writing
- Handling, feeding/watering, and working in proximity to: furbearing animals, birds, reptiles/amphibians, and fishes.
Work related experience applying knowledge of:
- Federal legislation regarding animals in research
- Guide requirements for the care and use of laboratory animals
- Requirements of animal care and ethical and valid research procedures
- Animal husbandry techniques
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in science related field
- Possess Certified Manager of Laboratory Animal Resources (CMAR) credentials through the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science
- Completion of the Institute of Laboratory Animal Management (ILAM) through the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science
Experience:
- Performing IACUC member responsibilities
- Working with animals exposed to biohazards
- Working with animals exposed to insect vectors
- Demonstrated management experience
- Demonstrated ability to understand and apply the DHHS-NIH Cost Analysis and Rate Setting Manual for Animal Resource Facilities
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
- Ability to lift, carry and/or otherwise move 60 pounds.
- Ability to wear negative pressure respirators and participate in a required medical surveillance program.
