The Office of Student Financial Services is seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as theAssociate Director of Financial Aid Outreach. Reporting to the Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships, the Associate Director is a member of the management team within the Office of Student Financial Services. As a collaborative group, they work closely with the Director and are responsible for the development and implementation of policies, procedures and communication plans to ensure that Office and University wide goals are successfully met.

The Associate Director, Financial Aid Outreach is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive financial aid outreach, student engagement, and financial literacy strategy, with a sharp focus on serving first generation and limited income (FLI) students. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated and innovative professional, with outstanding interpersonal skills, a commitment to the principles of access and diversity, and providing the best customer service and student support to our families. This position plays a key role in ensuring that our outreach and financial literacy initiatives are cohesive, integrated, and aligned with the mission of Financial Aid, and will work closely with the Financial Aid communications team.

The individual in this role will also liaise with other key stakeholder offices to identify opportunities to support both current and prospective students as new initiatives are conceived, developed and launched, and will manage all aspects of financial aid for the Baltimore Scholars and Hop-In programs. They will have one direct report (Assistant Director, Financial Aid Outreach).

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement events and programs to engage with students, and to help ensure the on-time renewal of financial aid and retention of students.
  • Conduct Financial Aid 101 workshops (in person and virtual) and Financial Literacy training for students throughout the year.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for coordination and troubleshooting of student financial concerns for other Homewood departments.
  • Perform outreach (phone calls, e-mails, text messaging campaigns, events, etc.) to current and prospective students who need assistance navigating their bills, financial aid renewal, refunds, etc.
  • Work closely with the Financial Aid and Admissions communication teams to ensure that programming is uniform, cohesive, integrated, personalized to target audiences, and aligned with institutional objectives.
  • Oversee the curation and promotion of financial literacy content and training, including (but not limited to) material from the Ocelot system.
  • Help design and develop a non-credit financial literacy course available to students in both a synchronous and asynchronous format.
  • Work closely with undergraduate admissions to prepare financial aid packages for prospective Baltimore scholars and students selected for the Hop-In program.
  • Assesses performance and success of programming and events through surveys.
  • Work with campus partners, such as the Center for Student Success and Student Outreach and Support team to extend our reach, impact and network of support for vulnerable students.
  • Guide the office strategy for the timing and delivery of events relative to other goals.
  • Leverage data from in person visits, e-mail inquiry and phone calls to inform and shape future events and programming.
  • Conduct High School Financial Aid Nights and other events for external partners as needed.
  • Convene and lead the Financial Aid Student Advisory Board.
  • Staff and support the financial aid presence in the Homewood Student One-Stop and virtual equivalents.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s degree required from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of 5 years professional financial aid experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Previous experience working in higher education, including exposure to admissions and financial aid.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, cultural responsiveness, and the ability to work in a diverse, matrixed organization; the ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to think critically and develop strategic programming to support students before, during and after Hopkins.
  • Ability to work effectively under deadlines and simultaneously juggle several assignments.
  • Flexibility in dealing with a very diverse culture, and commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse population.

Starting Salary Range: $59,280 - $81,435 annually (commensurate with experience)

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
