College of the Holy Cross ("Holy Cross"), the highly selective Catholic, Jesuit, liberal arts undergraduate institution, seeks a culturally competent, creative, and forward-thinking leader to serve as the first Associate Vice President for Finance (AVPF).  Holy Cross is one of 27 Jesuit institutions of higher education in the United States, and the only exclusively undergraduate liberal arts college. Founded in 1843 on a hill overlooking the city of Worcester (about 40 miles west of Boston), the Holy Cross community encompasses the diverse backgrounds and perspectives of 3,000 undergraduate students, over 300 full- and part-time faculty, 800 staff, and nearly 40,000 alumni.

 

In this critically important new role at Holy Cross, the AVPF will report to the Vice President for Administration and Finance and Treasurer and will be responsible for providing leadership in finance and auxiliary services for the College. The AVPF will provide senior leadership for a high-performing finance and treasury department and will have oversight of various functions of campus fiscal operations, financial reporting and analysis, planning, and accounting as well as Auxiliary Services.  The AVPF will oversee the College’s nationally recognized self-operated campus dining program, the bookstore, post office, and the Hogan Campus Center, which hosts approximately 300 external events and conferences and thousands of internal meetings on an annual basis.

 

This is an exceptional opportunity for an individual with proven leadership abilities and strong managerial, technical, and communication skills to help shape the future of a thriving Catholic, Jesuit institution. The ideal candidate will be a financial management content expert with experience in financial reporting, fiscal procedures and policies, tax laws and governmental reporting, GAAP, and knowledge of and experience with financial management systems. Candidates must possess an in-depth understanding of financial accounting, investments, long-term debt, endowment management, and customer service. The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively with all constituencies of the College about the financial affairs of Holy Cross. Externally, the position is responsible for supporting relationships with financial institutions, rating agencies, peer institutions, and industry organizations. This individual must be well versed in and remain current with compliance regulations impacting higher education finance, laws and regulations, accounting standards, and tax requirements.
