Job Description

The Department of Biological Sciences (https://www.biol.vt.edu/) at Virginia Tech is seeking to hire a tenure track assistant professor in the area of Cell and Molecular Biology. We welcome applicants whose research addresses fundamental cell and/or molecular biology questions, regardless of experimental model and/or type of experimental approaches (including computational) used.

The successful applicant will be expected to establish a productive, internationally-recognized research program that generates peer-reviewed scholarship and is supported by extramural funding, and to provide effective instruction and advising to a diverse population of undergraduate and graduate students. Other responsibilities include continued development of professional capabilities and scholarly activities, including participation in national and international conferences; curriculum development; involvement in department, college, and university governance; and professional service.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must have extensive research experience and training, including a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Biology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related field) and postdoctoral experience. Additionally, applicants must be dedicated to education at the undergraduate and graduate level, committed to teaching a student body that is diverse with respect to socio-economic status, interests and abilities, and sensitive to issues of diversity in the university community.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants whose research aims to achieve mechanistic understanding of fundamental cell and molecular biology processes and who demonstrate a clear understanding of diversity issues.
