Two-Year Visiting Assistant Professor of Philosophy

Williams College Department of Philosophy invites applications for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor position in Philosophy of Language, beginning July 1, 2022, and ending June 30, 2024. AOC: Open, but we are especially interested in candidates who can teach linguistics and/or an area of non-western philosophy. The teaching load each semester will consist of an introductory course and an upper-level elective. We provide mentoring in teaching and research for visiting faculty as well as support for conducting research. We are particularly interested in attracting and welcoming candidates from under-represented groups as well as individuals who have experience working with diverse undergraduate student populations.


Candidates should have a Ph.D. at the time of appointment. All offers of employment are contingent upon the completion of a background check. Further information is available at

Your application should include a cover letter in which you speak to your ability to work effectively with an undergraduate student population that is broadly diverse with regard to gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion. Please also include a vita, three letters of reference, and a writing sample. We also request at least one course description or a syllabus of a course you have taught or would like to teach. Preliminary interviews with the search committee will be held via video conference in early January. Applicants may then be invited for a campus visit in late January.
