Position Summary:

University Research Park ("URP"), a nonprofit affiliate of the University of Wisconsin - Madison, is currently searching for a talented professional to join its team in a newly created position as Laboratory Facility Manager. The Laboratory Facility Manager will be URP's in-house expert and point person on life science laboratory facility and equipment operations and requirements.

This position will help University Research Park solve facility-related challenges or problems to enhance customer service. The team member will help build out and manage life science-oriented laboratory facilities for its private-sector and University of Wisconsin customers. These customers have a variety of lab facility requirements including customized HVAC, electrical capacity, vibration sensitivity, equipment and systems infrastructure, chemical/hazard storage, regulatory needs, etc. The successful candidate will support our leasing efforts by meeting with customers to understand their needs, developing strategies and securing buy-in from both customers and other URP team members, and coordinating price estimating, design and implementation with vendors such as architectural, engineering, and construction firms.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's degree required

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

At least two years of professional experience designing, building, and/or managing laboratory facilities for life science companies or academic users.

Must have familiarity and continue to develop broad knowledge and understanding about regulatory and technical requirements for labs such as familiarity with BioSafety level requirements, cGMP practices, building and fire code issues related to laboratories, operational requirements of basic laboratory equipment, and laboratory safety practices.
