Position Function

Identify, engage, and successfully solicit alumni and friends for the purposes of securing major gifts for the extraordinarily special Ball State University College of Fine Arts; plan and implement ongoing major gift activities on behalf of the university in order to increase the number and size of private gifts.

Minimum Education

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.

Minimum Experience

At least three years of work experience in a related profession.

Minimum Other

Willingness and ability to travel; possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the university’s auto fleet policy; ability to work as part of an organization without direct daily supervision; outstanding oral, written, and listening communication skills are necessary in order to articulate institutional and college viewpoints, goals, priorities, and needs.

Authorization to work in the US

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Preferred Education

Master’s degree from an accredited institution.

Preferred Experience

Prior fundraising experience in higher education or non-profit setting.

Preferred Other

Strong organizational management and interpersonal skills together with self-motivation, personal accountability, and ability to motivate others, including staff, faculty and volunteers; ability to work as a team member within a complex institution; knowledge of or experience in an educational setting.

Pre-Employment Screening

Requires successful completion of a Drivers License check, Requires successful completion of a background check and education verification.

Duties & Responsibilities



Job Duty

Provide development leadership by identifying, engaging and successfully soliciting individual donors for major gifts towards annually determined fundraising and solicitation goal.



Job Duty

Working with supervisor and dean, develop solicitation strategies for major gifts by conducting research, identifying and prioritizing top prospective donors, creating plans for engaging donors with the university and college, and establishing philanthropic relationships which lead to securing major gifts.



Job Duty

Responsible for conducting a minimum of 150 meaningful contacts annually with our prospects.



Job Duty

Provide support and management for the major gifts program at the College of Fine Arts; includes exercising independent judgment and initiative in creating comprehensive major gift strategies which are aligned with the fundraising priorities of the university.



Job Duty

Develop and deliver solicitation proposals to articulate College priorities and secure private philanthropic gifts for the University.



Job Duty

Coordinate relationships and development activities with other administrative areas, campus units, peer development officers, and departmental leaders.



Job Duty

Manage and monitor individual relationships effectively; ensure appropriate call reports and documentation are properly recorded.



Job Duty

Contact donors as needed for purposes of gift acknowledgment, stewardship, pledge fulfillment, and gift renewal.

Support leadership proposals to major foundations.

Perform other related duties as assigned.
