Job Title:  Multicultural Student Services Manager

Classification:  12-month, full-time, benefits eligible staff position

Reports To:  Dean of Student Life

Job Summary/Objective: 

The Multicultural Student Services Manager is responsible for providing information and supporting international students during recruitment, onboarding and throughout their enrollment at the institution. The incumbent will also lead a range of programs and activities to highlight the contributions of multiple cultural perspectives to our community and educate domestic students’ global engagement.  

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Sweet Briar’s primary designated school official (PDSO) ensuring that all students are in compliance with DHS guidelines;
  • Support students during the visa acquisition process, inform them of immigration requirements, and to assist them with maintaining their status during enrollment as well as after graduation;
  • Collaborate with the Director of Student Engagement regarding the new student onboarding process, providing additional support and orientation activities for international students;
  • Assist with programming initiatives for international students and other students with diverse backgrounds;
  • Serve as a primary resource and provide support for international students and other students with diverse backgrounds;
  • Collaborate with the Office of the Dean by advising prospective, current, and returned study away participants on program and course selection, requirements, application process, cultural integration and other topics as needed;
  • Plans, coordinates, and evaluates cultural events, including history/heritage month-long programming. Collaborates with student organizations, departments, and community partners to plan and implement educational workshops, cultural performances, and other experiences that raise awareness, celebrate, and support diversity and inclusion;
  • Support the Office of Admissions in recruitment efforts for international students; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required from an accredited institution;
  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience working in a college or university setting
  • Demonstrated excellence in supporting international students and a diverse student body;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff and students;
  • Demonstrated effective problem-solving skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in various forms; and
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate field;
  • Previous experience working with international students;
  • Proficiency in a foreign language; and
  • Prior experience as a PDSO and/or with the SEVIS system.
