The Resident Director serves as the primary live-in administrator of one to two residence halls housing a total of approximately 200-400 students. Our on-campus population is primarily undergraduate, increasingly diverse, and heavily first generation. The Resident Director’s primary focus is to ensure that the residence hall(s) are safe, secure, clean environments which support the students’ pursuits of an educational degree as well as their growth and development. In accordance with this focus, the Resident Director will create and implement activities and programs that are responsive to students’ needs, develop community and are conducive to the academic mission of the university.

The Resident Director works in cooperation with other University departments to create a caring and purposeful living-learning community in the residence halls. The Resident Director provides leadership in creating a residence hall environment which fosters understanding, appreciation and celebration of diversity among residents and staff. The Resident Director works a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends. As such, the position includes an apartment on campus with a living room, kitchen and two bedrooms. The department has a partner policy, a pet policy (both provided upon request), and a meal plan.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications for Resident Director I:

  • Candidates must have completed either: a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum one year of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree by the time of appointment to be considered for the Resident Director position.


Required Qualifications for Resident Director II:

  • Candidates must have a minimum of one year of Student Affairs or Residential Life experience. Candidates without at least one year of Student Affairs or Residential Life experience are welcome to apply at a Resident Direct I level.


Other Information:

The salary for the Resident Director I is $36,450.00. The salary for Resident Director II is $38,068.80.

Benefits Information Summary

The schedule for this position is flexible, based primarily during business hours, and requires evening and weekend on-call responsibilities. This position will be based on our USM Gorham Campus (travel to other USM campuses in Portland or Lewiston-Auburn may be required, as well as some other in-state travel as necessary).
