Summary:
The Department of Biology at Utah Valley University invites applications for a Director of Biotechnology Research to start Fall 2021. The successful candidate will head a Non-Profit Contract Research Organization (CRO) that coordinates and supervises research partnerships between undergraduate Biotechnology students and industry. Responsibilities for this position include establishing a laboratory for Biotechnology student research, mentoring and training students and support staff, liaising with Biotechnology firms to identify and implement student research projects and internships, and assisting in preparation of grants and proposals to support the biotechnology program. The successful candidate should demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate research and an ability to establish an active and welcoming research program in Biotechnology that centers around the mentoring of diverse undergraduates. The ideal candidate will have a broad background in biotechnology laboratory skills, including mammalian cell culture and molecular biology techniques, and demonstrate a willingness to collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to promote the university's mission and values.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a Ph.D. in biotechnology, molecular biology, or related field.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the goals, activities, and practices of the Biotechnology industry
  • Knowledge of experimental design and procedures
  • Skills in biotechnology laboratory techniques and mammalian cell culture
  • Ability to mentor undergraduate research students
  • Ability to work with students, faculty, staff, and Biotechnology industry personnel
  • Ability to write proposals, reports, and grants





Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience working in the biotechnology industry and/or previous experience mentoring undergraduate researchers.

Physical Requirements:
Frequent standing, sitting, and walking; continuous ability to see, hear, and speak; Able to lift up to 20 pounds; frequent fine hand manipulation as associated with the use of a computer.
