    Department Summary
    The Erb Memorial Union (EMU) is a department of the Division of Student Life. The EMU is a multifaceted auxiliary service that employs over 90 professional staff and 400 student staff, and serves over 15 thousand daily users during the academic year. The EMU welcomes students, faculty, staff, the community and visitors to campus, and its mission is to provide learning experiences and opportunities for personal growth in an open, inclusive, and resource-rich community where students and staff collaborate to inspire and sustain extraordinary programs and services that promote diversity and social interaction. The EMU is student-centered and is operated in collaboration with a student Board, who are actively involved in determining the character and scope of the department and approve the budget recommendations of all EMU services and programs.

    The Core Mission of the Outdoor Program is: “To inspire learning through student powered outdoor adventure.” Acting as a wilderness resource center, the program assists students with off-campus trips; environmental and outdoor recreation career development; outdoor equipment selection; and safety education. The program also provides employment opportunities for students. The six main operations of the program are: Common adventure trips, on-campus events and clinics, OP outings, service projects, gear rentals, bike program, and information resource center.

    Students participating in OP activities develop in ways beyond outdoor skill development, which are valuable in academic, career, and personal life. Some of these skills are decision and leadership skills, time management skills, environmental awareness, social maturity and confidence, healthy lifestyles and stress reduction, respect for cultural diversity, ability to work with others, and more.

    Position Summary
    The purpose of this position is to provide a wide variety of services to assist with the smooth and effective functioning of the Outdoor Program. This position provides the primary response to inquiries from students, staff, and the community via face to face contact, phone and email which may require explaining or clarifying rules, processes and procedures and providing specialized information.

    This position also assists with inventory both at the OP Barn and in the EMU office, purchasing supplies and equipment, tracking invoices to ensure they are paid and recorded, sorting and distributing mail and packages, maintaining electronic and paper files, composing correspondence, and maintaining the professional appearance of the OP office.

    This position also creates, edits, and distributes promotional material and communication about the program and its offerings. This includes collaborating with Marketing, social media, emails and tabling.

    This position will require the ability to obtain UO Driver's Certification.

    Minimum Requirements
  • Two years of general clerical experience. One year of which included typing, word processing, or other experience generating documents; OR
  • An Associate's degree in Office Occupations or Office Technology; OR
  • Graduation from a private school of business with a Certificate in Office Occupations or Office Technology and one year of general clerical experience

    College courses in Office Occupations or Office Technology will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, organize work schedule and set priorities
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of a wide variety of computer platforms including social media, marketing and communication channels

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of local outdoor destinations, resources, and activities
  • Experience leading the work of or supervising students
