Description

The Department of Radiology at the University of Washington is seeking one part-time (50% FTE) radiologist interested in pursuing an academic career as an Assistant Professor, without tenure (WOT) by reason of funding, in the Neuroradiology Section.  This position has an anticipated start date of October 1, 2021.  School of Medicine faculty members have an annual service period of 12 months (July 1-June 30).

Responsibilities include clinical coverage of the diagnostic neuroradiology service, education of medical students, residents and fellows, and pursuit of academic excellence.  Candidates will be expected to perform clinical work in all aspects of diagnostic neuroradiology.  The neuroradiology section provides clinical coverage and teaching at four medical centers (University of Washington, Harborview, VA, and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance), all with state-of-the-art equipment, including five 3 Tesla and five 1.5 Tesla MR systems, three 64-detector multidetector CT scanners, two dedicated neurointerventional angio suites and two PET-CT.  Teaching and mentoring of medical students, residents and fellows is also a large part of our Section’s mission.  Participation in departmental outreach as appropriate is expected. All UW faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.  This is an outstanding opportunity for those seeking a successful academic career in radiology.

About the Department of Radiology and Neuroradiology Section:

UW School of Medicine is a top program, with UW Hospital ranked #1 in Washington.  The Department of Radiology is committed to a culture of diversity, inclusion, and equity in patient care, education, and discovery.  Our department has 160 clinical and research faculty including physicians, physician assistants, advanced registered nurse practitioners, and scientists, and 109 residents, fellows, and post-doctoral students.  We have an incredibly talented staff and leadership team. We provide services to the Pacific Northwest (WWAMI - Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho), but also to patients from all other states, Canada, Asia, Africa, and other regions of the world.  We are recognized for patient and family-centered care.  Our core value is to provide the best in care for every patient every time.  We are proud of our research endeavors, which aim at providing healthcare that is more accessible, less invasive, at a lower cost, and with optimal outcomes. We are ranked # 13 in NIH funds among academic institutions.  Our valued educational programs are geared toward forming physicians and scientists who care deeply about our communities and see innovation as central to the challenges of the future.

The Neuroradiology Section consists of 14 faculty members and 9 fellows.  We are a large, diverse section with an extensive track record of academic success.  While all faculty members have experience with all aspects of abdominal imaging, dedication and expertise in their chosen clinical and research areas is encouraged and supported.  We have ample departmental and university resources for teaching and research, including access to cutting edge technology from GE Healthcare and Philips Medical Imaging and protected academic time commensurate with funding.

Seattle is consistently ranked among the top three urban areas for quality of life, with superb recreation and outdoor activities nearby and a very temperate climate.  Despite its reputation, springs and summers in Seattle are sunny and warm.  It is very family-friendly and accommodating to extensive sports and outdoors activities with excellent schools available.  Seattle has thriving culinary and music scenes.  It is not only the city that gave us Jimmy Hendrix, Nirvana, and Pearl Jam, but also the place where you find some of the best jazz performances in the world.  Sports?  Seattle Seahawks, Seattle Storm, Seattle Sounders FC, Seattle Mariners, and Seattle Kraken, Go Huskies!
