The University of Houston-Clear Lake invites applicants for an appointment as Associate Dean of the College of Science and Engineering. The selected candidate will join a high impact college whose students have gone on to successful careers as well as graduate study. The Associate Dean is an academic and administrative officer who reports to the Dean of the College and supports the teaching, research, and service mission of the college by fulfilling duties in areas defined by the Dean. The Associate Dean communicates with university offices, college departments, and external communities. The level of authority of an Associate Dean is set by the Dean.

Duties:

  • Facilitates development of new academic programs and program revisions, including cross-unit and cross-college programs; oversees course schedules, course and program enrollments, academic standards, program reviews, and accreditation matters. Oversees graduate admissions, progress on strategic plans, develops reports/metrics as needed, and assures curriculum, catalog, and website changes are processed through appropriate channels (CSE, UHCL, UH System, State approvals, SACS).
  • Monitors course offerings to assure courses are scheduled within established university processes; manages compliance, development, revision, and implementation of college, university, state and federal policies and procedures; oversees recruitment, retention, marketing, and student petitions about academic and disciplinary matters; collaborates with the offices of Enrollment Management, Financial Aid, and Global Learning and Strategy; participates on university-level committees, professional boards, community relations, outreach activities; and supervises assigned staff.
  • May also participate in a campus-wide mentoring program as set forth in the "Impact 2025 and Beyond" Strategic Plan https://stories.uhcl.edu/strategic-plan and performs other duties as assigned. 

Required:

1. Ph.D. in Science, Engineering, or related field from an accredited institution.

2. Evidence of significantly progressive experience and levels of responsibility at an accredited institution and meet the requirements to be an Associate Professor, preferably Full Professor.
