Assistant Director of Digital Communications



Job Description:

The Assistant Director for Communications leads effective communications efforts for a Alumni Engagement team which designs, promotes, supports and stages well-attended alumni events on and off campus, virtual offerings, several signature campus reunions, a vibrant lifelong learning program, and activities in our alumni chapters. The Assistant Director interacts with members of the Alumni Association Board to facilitate their roles as university communications ambassadors.

Responsible for web-based announcements, information, and promotion of various events of interest to alumni. Creatively and proactively uses social media, blast emails, and texting to create institutional knowledge among alumni, drive attendance, and increase engagement.

Essential Functions:

  • With the Executive Director and Sr. Associate Director of Alumni Engagement, interacts with the Alumni Association Board and alumni chapter leaders, providing them regular campus updates, FAQs, Talking Points, and helping them distribute information in their networks.

  • Liaisons with social media committee of the Alumni Board; creates new tactics to engage varied and diverse alumni on social media platforms. Collaborates with Alumni Chapters to expand social media usage, increasing alumni chapters’ effective presence on social media.

  • Manages, updates and strengthens the look, functionality, and video content of the Alumni Engagement website. Member of the University Web Communications Team; analyzes and implements creative communication tactics for and between alumni.

  • Provides creative solutions and technical support for virtual engagement offerings.

  • Lead developer of content for Alumni Engagement section of Generally Speaking and Alumni Engagement newsletter.

  • Works with office colleagues and Advancement Operations to create and pull lists and data from Raiser’s Edge database. Understands data integrity.

  • Provides support and staffing for several major campus reunion weekends annually.

  • Additional related duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required . It is advantageous to have e xperience and creativity working with different forms of digital communications, including Web content management, email and basic social media applications, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram. F amiliarity with Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge/ Net Community is a plus. Must be able to learn software applications, keep current in trends and products, and act as a liaison between technical and non-technical staff. Should have solid experience with graphic design and publishing software programs such as Adobe Creative Suite, Photo Shop and Dreamweaver.

Types of Work: Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Work Schedule: M-F, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm with occasional nights and weekend hours required.
