Position Summary:

Principal Duties:

The Hematopathology division is responsible for review of all hematologic related pathology specimens, including peripheral smears, bone marrows (1500/year), lymph node /tissue biopsies (500/year), leukemia/lymphoma workups by flow cytometry (1000/year) as well as review of outside materials from patients referred to the University of Wisconsin Comprehensive Cancer Center (at least 300/year) . The Hematopathology division supports a busy adult and pediatric hematology /oncology service including adult and pediatric autologous and allogeneic bone marrow transplant and immunotherapy programs. The successful candidate will be part of the diagnostic hematopathology team and will be expected to contribute to the mission of the department via active participation in the research and teaching programs, training of residents, fellows and medical students, mentoring of trainees and participation in continuing medical education programs. It is anticipated that the successful candidate would be on track to become the fellowship director and eventual division director. There is an active Hematopathology Fellowship program and an established Translational Research Laboratory within the department which is also available for academic endeavors. The successful candidate will also participate in professional, public, and university service.

The successful applicant will participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.

The successful candidate will teach medical students, residents, and fellows.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

MD or MD/PhD. Board certified in AP, CP or AP/CP, and board eligible or certified in hematopathology.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

General pathology with expertise in hematopathology. Fellowship training in hematopathology is required and at least three years prior experience at the faculty level is preferred.

License or Certificate:

Eligible for unrestricted State of Wisconsin Medical License. Licensure will be required for successful candidate.
