The Systems Engineer I installs new software and completes infrastructure upgrades, evaluates and installs patches, monitors system performance and resolves related problems. Performs system backups and recovery. Maintains data storage and monitors system configuration to ensure data integrity.

Job Description

Designs, develops, supports and maintains systems infrastructure.

Installs new software and infrastructure upgrades, evaluates and installs patches, monitors system performance, and resolves escalated problems.

Performs data backups and recoveries.

Monitors and maintains continuity with system licensing and maintenance agreements.

Serves as an escalation point for IT User Support Specialist.

Tracks problems in the work order system.

Maintains records, forms, and system related installation documentation.

Develops new techniques and procedures to enhance university systems infrastructure.

Reviews progress, evaluates results, recommends new processes, and promotes best practices.

Administers and manages security within various enterprise applications.

Additional Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science or related field.

One year of professional full-time related experience.

Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Experience with enterprise systems and applications and current versions of Windows Server/Linux or other enterprise services.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Banner, Workday or other Enterprise Resource Planning systems.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of basic networking concepts (e.g. Systems, Protocols, Directory Services).

Knowledge and proficiency with relevant business systems, operating systems, and servers.

Knowledge of and ability to administer cloud based applications (Saas).

Skill in light programming, project management of small initiatives, and troubleshooting.

Skill in managing servers and storage hardware.

Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

Advanced verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups.

Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate and perform work in various situations when numerous and diverse demands are involved.

Ability to collaborate and work effectively within a diverse community and willing to contribute to a team effort.

Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments.

Ability to provide professional customer service.

Salary Range:

$65,000 - $67,776 annually
