St. Kate’s offers different program pathways for aspiring early childhood educators to earn a primary education degree. Our faculty inspire socially aware educators to learn and implement anti-bias and anti-racist teaching strategies, create effective lesson plans, assess and manage classrooms, understand the needs of diverse and special learners, and ground their learning in Montessori philosophy.

Responsibilities:
  • Teach courses in the Early Childhood undergraduate and Acknowledging Montessori for a Masters (AM2) degree programs
  • Teach Early Childhood Education courses associated with licensure and supervision of student teachers
  • Teach 2-3 graduate and 3-4 undergraduate courses per year in traditional classroom, online and hybrid environments
  • Foster a culture of inclusive excellence through authentic relationships with students as an educator, an advisor, and a mentor
  • Monitor and assess student-learning outcomes and provide timely and frequent feedback to students on academic performance
  • Design, teach, evaluate and revise course content to reflect evidence-based practice and most current knowledge in the field.
  • Monitor curriculum content and make recommendations as appropriate to maintain relevance.
  • Develop and pursue an innovative and respected program of research in an area of interest and expertise to advance the discipline and inform classroom teaching
  • Consistent with the university’s Catholic identity, its commitment to women, diversity, inclusion, social justice, and dedication to a liberal arts based curriculum, faculty are expected to manifest these themes in their teaching, research, service and accomplishments

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree or Doctoral degree in Education with 18 or more graduate credits in the area of instruction (e.g., Early Childhood Education, Child Development)
  • Three years of full time teaching experience with children in early childhood
  • Knowledge of a broad variety of early childhood education theories, curriculum and program models
  • Knowledge of and commitment to anti-bias and anti-racist pedagogy and curriculum
  • Experience delivering instruction in both face-to-face and online learning environments
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctorate in Education required to teach graduate-level research courses
  • Completion of a state-approved teacher preparation program in Early Childhood Education which covers Birth to Grade 3
  • Holds or has held a professional educator license aligned to Early Childhood Education
  • Experience working with non-traditional adult college students
  • Experience teaching early childhood education content or 18 graduate credits in the content area of mathematics, science, social and/or cultural studies, language arts, etc.
  • Meet MN Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board faculty qualifications
