The Los Rios Community College District is the second-largest, two-year public college district in California, serving approximately 75,000 students in the greater Sacramento region. The District’s 2,400 square mile service area includes Sacramento and El Dorado counties and parts of Yolo, Placer, and Solano counties and is comprised of four uniquely diverse colleges – American River, Cosumnes River, Folsom Lake, and Sacramento City colleges. Position Summary
Under general direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor of Instruction, the Director of Degree Planning Initiatives has primary responsibility for the successful implementation of Los Rios degree planning projects.

Assignment Responsibilities
  • Leading the four College Los Rios effort to successfully implement the Highpoint Degree Planner tool, by ensuring full integration of Degree Planner at the District and College level.
  • Providing leadership and oversight to implementation efforts including planning and prioritizating of enhancements and fixes in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Prioritizing and optimizing legacy system configurations within the PeopleSoft SIS, including but not limited to Degree Audit configurations for the Colleges; and course configurations at the College and District level.
  • Providing leadership and oversight to system design, testing, and release processes.
  • Facilitating assessment and analysis of decisions to support the successful implementation of the degree planning tools.
  • Leading Organizational Change Management activities to facilitate adoption of the tool by students, faculty, and staff.
  • Addressing legacy configuration priorities within the PeopleSoft SIS, including but not limited to Degree Audit configurations at the College; and course configurations at the College and District level.
  • Reconciling system issues within all degree instructional planning platforms in real time, to ensure accuracy and alignment.
  • Aligning local College and District system configuration norms, business practices and timelines to ensure accuracy and alignment.
  • Developing consistent training guidelines, user manuals, professional development opportunities and quality assurance guidelines to ensure end user competency in and accuracy with all degree instructional planning platforms (e.g. Degree Audit, Degree Planner).
  • Negotiating and continuously improving relationships with Los Rios stakeholders, product vendors, and other stakeholders through facilitation of regular workgroup meetings, planning sessions, forums, etc.
  • Ensuring compliance with project requirements; creating effective and practical project work plan.
  • Solving operational problems as they arise and documenting best practices.
  • Identifying opportunities for program improvement.
  • Collecting data needed to determine effectiveness of projects in order to ensure meeting of project goals.
  • Creating, reviewing, and submitting required reports; participating in the creation of tactical and strategic plans for future projects aligned with the project’s mission.
  • Supervising where appropriate project staff, including; clerical, administrative, student, and technical professional staff.
  • Producing additional written and oral reports as needed.
  • Creating and managing budgets; managing expenditures to ensure project is completed within budget. Identifying and implementing best administrative and budget practices.
  • Administering and overseeing all activities related to the Degree Planner project in conjunction with other responsible staff and the district’s IT division for successful roll-out and completion of the project.
  • Solving operational problems and communicating verbally and in written form on progress and solutions to the Associate Vice Chancellor of Instruction.
  • Monitoring and consolidating data related to the performance of colleges and partners as identified through project planning processes.
  • Collaborating with faculty, deans, program managers, and others, from the Los Rios Community College District and campuses.
  • Producing narrative and budget reports as required Los Rios Community College District and the CCCCO .
  • Representing Los Rios Community College District and colleges in meetings and conference calls as required.
  • Working independently and under limited supervision.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

  • Student Information Systems (e.g. PeopleSoft); College course/program planning systems (e.g. Highpoint Degree Planner)

Administrative assignment may include day, evening, weekend, and/or off campus work and/or hours.

  1. Have a master’s degree in a discipline at the college from an accredited institution completed by August 2021.
  2. Have two years of successful experience in apprenticeship programs, grant, and/or contract management experience in an educational environment or similar setting.
  3. Have one year formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrative assignment.
  4. Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.
