JOB DESCRIPTION:

Under the general supervision of the assigned Dean, the Professor will teach classes in Electron Microscopy. The successful candidate will provide evidence of knowledge and understanding of the racial, socioeconomic, and academic diversity within community college populations, and how these factors relate to the need for equity-minded and culturally-responsive practices in the community college setting.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Conduct organized classes at the instructional level to meet the educational requirements stated in the course description and the course information outlines.
  2. Advise and assist students in achieving stated course objectives.
  3. Evaluate the progress of each student; connect students to appropriate campus-support services.
  4. Participate in the evaluation of course offerings, including the revision of course descriptions and course outlines that reflect a culturally-responsive pedagogy.
  5. Coordinate with other faculty in the selection of textbooks, audiovisual and other instructional materials that advance the college's mission of developing an equity-minded education.
  6. Keep current with new developments and maintain fields of competency within the framework of support provided by the San Joaquin Community College District.
  7. Maintain necessary records of student enrollment, attendance, progress and grades; prepare and submit required reports to the administration.
  8. Report to management any condition that might jeopardize the health or safety of students or the public.
  9. Assist in the marketing and promotion of the program by participating in college-sponsored events and by visiting local businesses and schools.
  10. Be familiar with and act in accordance with the Education Code and San Joaquin Community College District policies and procedures.
  11. Participate in departmental, divisional, advisory, campus-wide and community committees as part of the shared-governance process and service area needs of the District.
  12. Maintain office hours for students and participate in additional service hours/activities that benefit the student, college or community.
  13. Plan and complete approved professional development flex activities each semester/year.
  14. Participate in the departmental process of curriculum review, modification and the assessment of student learning outcomes.
  15. Work collaboratively with Success Teams to monitor, advise and ensure student equity and success through completion and post-graduation outcomes.
  16. Provide guidance and direction to readers and/or Instructional Support Assistant (ISA) as appropriate.
  17. Perform other necessary duties which assure the smooth functioning of the Division and Programs as assigned by the Division Dean and as outlined in Board Policy.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Any Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and two years of experience, OR any Associate's Degree and six years of experience.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience in teaching postsecondary courses in Electron Microscopy such as, but not limited to, theory, operation and applications of Transmission, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Reflected Light Microscopy, Focused Ion Beam Technology, and Energy Dispersive Analysis instrumentation, and current materials specimen preparation techniques.
  • Experience with one-on-one training such as but not limited to
    • Materials sample preparation equipment including dimplers, tripod polishers, dand ion beam mills.
    • Vacuum systems including operation and maintenance off pumps, vacuum logic and trouble shooting.
    • Maintenance techniques including EM filament exchange and column component exchange.
    • Emphasis on laboratory requirements including safety protocols and laboratory documentation.
    • Failure analysis of microelectronic semiconductor devices, metallography, related materials
  • Knowledge/experience in fields related to current nanotechnology.
  • Demonstrated exemplary teaching practices in Electron microscopy.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt teaching strategies and techniques to different student's ability, learning styles, culture and ethnic groups.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching in a variety of settings including but not limited to online, dual enrollment and large lecture. A willingness to develop and utilize instructional materials including lectures and labs for multi-modalities.
  • Ability to use innovative and creative teaching techniques (lecture and labs) and equipment, including the use multimedia hardware, current applications, and online instructional strategies. A working knowledge of Canvas is particularly desirable.
