About the Position:
The Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs is driven by student success. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Assistant Vice President for Academic Resource Planning and Budget. The ideal candidate in this position should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

The Assistant Vice President for Academic Resource Planning and Budget (AVPARPB) reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and is responsible for providing leadership and support for effective and efficient planning related to various aspects of the academic enterprise including but not limited to: academic budget management; space and utilization; financial aspects of enrollment management; and financial aspects of human resources within Academic Affairs. Participates in and contributes to the strategic and tactical planning efforts of Academic Affairs and the University. Provides leadership and support to a diverse group of Academic Resources professionals within the Provost's Office, the colleges, and other units within Academic Affairs. The AVPARPB's work requires high-level skills in financial management and analysis, communication, collaboration, team-building, data-based decision making, and problem solving. Being successful in the position requires strong partnering and collaboration with other divisions, the colleges, and various units within Academic Affairs. The AVPARPB serves on various committees, as needed, and is a member of the Provost's Council and AVP leadership team. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline from an accredited four-year college or university. Minimum of ten years of related professional experience, ideally in a higher education setting, with increasing responsibility for resource and budget management as well as financial planning and analysis. Minimum of five years of related professional experience in a higher education setting overseeing academic budgets. Proven skills working effectively in and with leading teams in collaborative environments with diverse groups. Proven ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with diverse individuals at all levels of an organization. Proven ability to develop and implement data-driven, short-term and long-term plans. Experience in use of modern accounting and budget/resource systems software. Demonstrated technical skills including standard (e.g., Microsoft Office suite) and specialized software or tools (i.e., accounting, budget, and/or resource planning related).

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance or related discipline from an accredited four-year college or university. Pertinent professional experience within the CSU or UC system. Academic budget and resource management, as well as financial planning and analysis experience in a college. Experience in use of PeopleSoft and/or Oracle Business Intelligence Suite, Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) systems. Experience in multi-source funding models including auxiliary funds, state vs. self-support funding, etc. Familiarity with higher education budget models such as activity-based costing (ABC) and responsibility centered management (RCM).
