Basic Function:
Under the general supervision of the Dean of The School for Professional & Continuing Studies, the Director of the Bachelor's Degree for Professionals program will be the administrative leader of the program, providing overall leadership, and supervising the Associate Director, student workers, and other staff as appropriate. The Director will manage everyday relations with adjunct faculty and oversee the day-to-day program operations. Additionally, the Director will represent the program with key constituents across the University and will be responsible for external program outreach. The Director will co-manage operations for the Center for Lifelong Learning with the Dean

Representative Duties:
  • Acts officially on behalf of Bachelor’s Degree for Professionals program regarding Cal Lutheran policies and procedures. E
  • Networks and collaborates with leaders across campus in student-facing areas (i.e. Financial Aid, Business Office, Academic Services, and the Veteran Resource Office) in regard to Cal Lutheran policies and procedures, ensuring Professionals students’ needs are represented and addressed. E
  • Represents the Bachelor’s Degree for Professionals program with internal and external constituents. Advocates for program’s increasingly diverse student population to increase access throughout all levels of the university.
  • Provides day-to-day leadership and supervision to the Associate Director (and other staff as appropriate) including assessing job performance, troubleshooting issues, identifying professional development needs and opportunities, and providing mentorship as well as general support. E
  • Assists the Program Specialist with hiring, supervising, mentoring, and providing professional development for student workers. E
  • Collects, analyzes, and interprets a variety of institutional data, reporting enrollment trends, factors leading to persistence, and factors leading to attrition; constructs, conducts, and analyzes surveys. E
  • Develops and implements (with the Associate Director) programming to increase persistence and retention efforts. E
  • Works closely with the Dean to monitor and design interventions for enrollment goal attainment, persistence and retention efforts. E
  • Supervises the Associate Director in the development, implementation, and evaluation of all academic/counseling policies and procedures specific to the Professionals program; consults with the Dean as appropriate. E
  • Co-creates the academic 2-year planner with the academic counselors and consults with the Dean. E
  • Creates program course schedules for each term, balancing courses at various locations and adjusting schedules as necessary. E
  • Staffs courses for the Professionals program, coordinates with department chairs, program directors, and Academic Affairs as necessary. Works with the Dean to identify staffing gaps (the Dean and Professionals FT faculty identifies and hires new adjuncts). E
  • Coordinates with appropriate department chairs and program directors regarding any curricular questions/matters that affect the Professionals program, consults with the Dean as appropriate. E
  • Responsible for coordinating faculty professional development and engagement opportunities throughout the year. E
  • Develops and maintains relationships with adjunct and full-time faculty; assists with hiring and onboarding, acts as the point person for faculty as they identify students who are struggling academically and socially and/or stop attending class, coordinating with the academic counselors and faculty on intervention plans. E
  • Acts as the first point-of-contact for grade challenges and petitions; directs to the Dean as appropriate. E
  • Reviews and approves all course overload and concurrent enrollment student requests. E
  • Monitors incomplete grades/contracts and follows up with appropriate faculty as needed. E
  • Supervises the Associate Director in monitoring all students close to probation, on probation, or at risk of suspension. E
  • Facilitates communication with Undergraduate Transfer Admissions about admission policies and works to create synergy between the Professionals program and the admission team, consults with the Dean as appropriate. E
  • Collaborates with Undergraduate Transfer Admissions Associate Director to review student applications that do not meet the minimum requirements and finalizes admission decisions. E
  • With the Dean, coordinates and liaises with University Marketing on marketing-related tasks, projects, and participates in annual creative planning. E
  • Represents the Professionals program, sits on University committees, task forces, and search committees as needed. E
  • Serves as the Chapter Councilor of Alpha Sigma Lambda, the adult learner honor society for Professionals Undergraduate students. E
  • Manages Professionals program meetings, collaborates with the Professionals’ faculty chair to plan meetings. E
  • Liaises with the full-time faculty as needed. E
  • Collaborates with the Dean on strategic planning for the Professionals program. E
  • Collaborates with the Dean on Professionals program and non-Professionals program issues. E
  • Co-manages the Center for Lifelong Learning; assists with the development and expansion of programs and offerings. E
  • Networks and collaborates with internal and external constituents to create and offer relevant programs; works alongside the Dean in strategic planning for the Center. E
  • Travel between Cal Lutheran satellite locations as well as local community college and businesses (approximate 60 mile radius) .
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination equivalent to: A Master’s degree with at least four years of mid-level leadership and supervisory experience in higher education.

Preferred Qualifications:
Well versed in DEIJ strategies and approaches, ease with analyzing and reporting data, experience with faculty, familiarity with advising or counseling post-traditional learners.

Licenses and Other Requirements:
Valid California driver’s license
Ability to work evenings and weekends
