Interactive Multimedia Designer - AAP

The Advanced Academic Programs Department seeks an Interactive Multimedia Designer (Multimedia Systems Specialist) who will be responsible for integrating multimedia into the design and development of online courses. TheInteractive Multimedia Designer helps enhance the online experience at AAP by creating interactive and engaging learning assets such as branching scenario simulations, interactive video, interactive graphics, quizzes, interactive 360 videos, and more. In this Multimedia team role, you will work independently or collaborate with other Multimedia team members, Course Support Specialists, Training Specialists, Instructional Technologists, Instructional Designers, and Subject Matter Experts in order to develop interactive assets.

Note: This position will require occassional commute to AAP DC location and opportunity for telecommute.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Interactive Content Development for Courses

  • Assist with the development of interactive projects, including scoping the required resources and timeline to meet project timelines with quality results.
  • Storyboard and conceptualize projects.
  • Use coding skills to design and develop interactive learning assets.
  • Must be able to leverage stock images, photo editing skills, basic video editing skills to compile multimedia elements within an interactive authoring program like Articulate Storyline/Adobe Captivate.
  • Produce quality interactive course material, including PowerPoint slides, diagrams, interactive exercises, and assessments.
  • Work independently or collaborate with curriculum development and training teams to develop, interactive multimedia lessons and work to evaluate and improve production processes.
  • Work with subject matter experts to produce scripts, content, and timelines.
  • Routinely test interactive templates and work using a screen reader to ensure accessibility standards are met.
  • Incorporate accessibility and responsive standards and assets into all interactive design such as: alternative text for images, captions for short videos, etc.

Faculty/Staff Training and Development

  • Assist with training faculty and staff about interactive development processes and best practices.
  • Work with the Professional Development team to develop training materials and live sessions for AAP faculty.
  • Implement interactive object production practices that are effective and meet defined objectives.
  • Effectively manage projects from storyboarding/design to deployment phase in a timely manner and according to expectations.
  • Present multimedia projects in clear and concise formats.
  • Delivers accessible and responsive multimedia content that meets WCAG 2.1AA and UDL standards.
  • Make recommendations on the exploration and adoption of new technologies and design strategies.
  • Generate weekly status reports for projects.
  • Respond to faculty consultation requests within 24 hours.
  • Design and host webinars.

Research

  • Introduce new technologies and multimedia production strategies are introduced that meet needs and advance the capability to deliver quality services.
  • Provide professional and timely input and contributes to informed decisions.
  • Recommend interactive 3rd party content to Faculty.
  • Research emerging technology, new applications, and online learning tools for further recommendation and implementation.
  • Keep the team knowledge current regarding advances in media technology and research about multimedia in a teaching environment.
  • Implement new formats, technology, and integrations into online learning process.
  • Review 3rd party interactive content for quality and consistency as needed.

Special Project Lead

  • Lead and coordinate special projects as assigned.
  • Complete work in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate willingness to go above and beyond to help others.
  • Develop reports to analyze instructional design processes and recommend improvements.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Three years in-depth experience in multimedia, distribution systems, satellite communications, distance learning, electronic security, web-based applications, networks, principles of Internet, web casting and streaming media.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university with concentration in Instructional Design, Interactive Media, Learning Systems, Education, Adult Learning, Communication, or related field required.
  • Five years of related experience preferred.
  • Sound knowledge of different instructional methods and learning preferences live and also blended, online asynchronous/self-study
  • Experience using H5P or ability to quickly learn new interactive content authoring software
  • Experience in curriculum design and development
  • Experience with adult learning theories

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Technical skills and experience with interactive authoring tools (i.e., Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, etc).
  • Ability to conceptualize and Storyboard.
  • Strong storytelling skills.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to prepare written communication with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Understanding and experience with copyright and fair use guidelines for using multimedia materials.
  • Ability to apply principles of human-centered design to provide online education to persons with disabilities and knowledge of Universal Design principles, ADA requirements, and accessibility standards.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
  • Advanced skills and experience with Articulate Storyline and comfort with other interactive authoring tools (Captivate, H5P).
  • Experience developing Interactive objects (web- based), technical training videos, documentation, presentations, and other training materials maintained in a Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Knowledge of and experience with interactive technical standards (SCORM, AICC, xAPI).
  • Excellent eye for minute details and consistency.
  • High level of organizational skills, and ability to juggle multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and agile work environment.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively as dictated by the project, handle multiple projects, and meet deadlines and project plans.
  • Ability to acquire, synthesize and share expert professional knowledge of current and emerging instructional technologies.
  • Knowledge of social media tools and their application in teaching and learning.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
  • Portfolio required
  • Strong working knowledge and experience with Articulate Storyline or Adobe Captivate.
  • Strong working knowledge in coding (HTML5, CSS, JavaScript).
  • High level of understanding of design concepts, principles, processes, color theory, and typography.
  • In-depth knowledge of several graphic design software including Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe InDesign.
  • Basic knowledge of video editing platforms (Final Cut X, Premiere Pro, and AfterEffects), camera operation and lighting, audio recording, digital photography, and/or media management.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.  Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
