Job Description

Enterprise Systems (ES) is a unit within the Division of Information Technology at Virginia Tech. Enterprise Systems supports the mission of the university by developing, coordinating, and managing application software systems that provide critical information services for university constituents.

Human Resources Applications within is seeking a motivated individual interested in using technology to solve business problems within a dynamic evolving technical environment. This position includes database development using PL/SQL, application development (web, batch, services, etc.) using Java/Groovy/JavaScript, and reporting/analytics using tools such as MicroStrategy.

In addition, the Application Analyst will:
- Research, analyze, develop, maintain, and modify innovative information system solutions that model complex business processes while ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and maintainability
- Work collaboratively to implement, maintain, support, and enhance integrations with Ellucian Banner, vendor purchased ancillary systems (locally hosted and cloud based), locally developed systems, and external entities
- Provide technical support for Enterprise Systems applications to campus administrative offices
- Gather and apply knowledge of business processes to operational improvement initiatives
- Apply relational database concepts using one or more programming languages to perform database queries, modifications, and database transactions
- Communicate effectively with a broad range of users regarding information technology issues
- Create and maintain accurate documentation

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent related work experience
- Knowledge of Java, Groovy, .NET, or PL/SQL
- Demonstrated proficiency with business process and systems analysis
- Basic understanding of relational database concepts
- Demonstrated skills in working effectively in a team environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with Test Driven Development (TDD) and/or Agile Development
- Experience with object-oriented programming (OOP) and/or object-oriented analysis and design (OOAD)
- Experience using JavaScript, HTML, JSON, or XML
- Experience using application frameworks such as Spring, Grails, or AngularJS
- Experience using build and dependency management tools such as Maven, Ant, Ivy, or Gradle
- Experience using source version control tools such as GIT, SVN, etc.
- Exposure to mobile application development
