Assistant/Associate Professor of Physical Therapy

Utica College, a small comprehensive college in Upstate New York, is seeking a tenure-track, 10-month Assistant/Associate Professor position of Physical Therapy, beginning January 2, 2022. The successful candidate will teach, based on contemporary expertise, in some of the following courses: Pediatrics, neuroscience, neuromuscular systems, foundations of physical therapy, clinical science, case analysis, research or professional practice. They will have an established research agenda  and participate in Departmental, College and Community service activities. They will participate in students’ academic advising and professional mentoring.

The Department of Physical Therapy is housed within the School of Health Professions and Education, which also includes programs in occupational therapy, nursing, health sciences, and therapeutic recreation. The School of Health Professions and Education provides opportunities for interprofessional education and faculty collaboration, and has recently appointed a Director of IPE as part of the senior leadership team. The Physical Therapy Program is home to talented, collaborative and award-winning faculty, many of them have been involved in leadership positions at the College as well as New York and National APTA offices.


The educational facilities include classrooms, clinical skills labs, and a cadaver lab. The PT Program offers a number of community service programs, including access to a local student run pro bono clinic, a senior wellness program, and a well-developed roster of patient volunteers for integrated clinical experiences throughout the curriculum. In addition, collaboration with the local health system (Mohawk Valley Health System – MVHS) allows for student access to inpatient populations for focused laboratory sessions during the second year of preparation. MVHS is currently constructing a new, state of the art downtown hospital, slated for completion in 2022.

Qualifications:

●Terminal academic doctoral degree such as PhD, DSc, DrPH, DHSor EdD or similar. Candidates with prior higher education experience are preferred.

Required License/Certification and Qualifications:
● A current license to practice as a PT in any United States jurisdiction is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
● Contemporary expertise in Pediatric Physical Therapy, or ABPTS Certification.
● Eligibility for New York physical therapy license.
● Evidence of a successful record of academic and/or clinical teaching.
● Experience in a leadership role, with preference given to academic administrative experience.
● Based on the candidate interest and qualifications, this position may also include administrative responsibilities related to the entry level program or the clinical residency programs.
