JOB DESCRIPTION

The Department of Sociology in the Shaheen College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Indianapolis is seeking an Associate Adjunct in sociology beginning in August 2021, for a nine-month, non-tenure track faculty position. The ability to teach primarily during the day is required. The Associate Adjunct will teach 15 to 21 hours of Sociology courses per year such as Principles of Sociology, Conflict Resolution, Gender Issues in Law and Society, and other courses as needed. A separate contract for summer teaching is possible, though not guaranteed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach 15-21 credit hours per year
  • Stay current on teaching best practices
  • Design courses and syllabi that conform to University and Department requirements and expectations
  • Develop and plan engaging lessons
  • Grade assignments in a timely manner to provide students with meaningful feedback
  • Respond to student needs in person or electronically


QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 18 graduate credit hours in Sociology, Applied Sociology, or a related field required; MA, ABD, or PhD in Sociology preferred
  • Ability to teach primarily during the day is required
  • A record of successful teaching is preferred
  • Prior experience demonstrating a commitment to supporting all students, including first generation and historically marginalized students is preferred
