Title: Assistant Director of Annual Giving





Position Purpose:

The Assistant Director of Annual Giving manages and oversees 10 to 15 alumni classes by managing effective volunteer committees and soliciting prospects in person, including the Reunion classes. Meets or exceeds annual dollar and participation goals.

Job Duties:
  • Manages the volunteer-driven fundraising campaigns for 10-15 alumni classes. Recruit lead volunteers and develop inspiring but achievable goals for each class with the purpose of increasing giving and participation to the college, primarily to the Bates Fund.
  • Oversee the class fundraising initiatives for the 2-3 Reunion classes. Partner with the volunteers to create a meaningful and celebratory Reunion year.
  • Coordinate and lead 2-3 conference calls per class per year, provides updates and reports on a monthly basis, reviews agent/committee activity and success on a monthly basis, stewards and thanks all fundraising volunteers.
  • Spend 1-3 days per month traveling to visit with volunteers and donors both at events and through individual and joint meetings.
  • Work with colleagues in Leadership Gifts, Planned Giving, and Donor Programs to develop new and successful ways of cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors.
  • Develop a good knowledge of Bates College history, the academic and extracurricular programs, and its faculty, students, and administration. Maintain a thorough understanding of the College's current priorities and initiatives.
  • Participate in departmental and professional training programs to increase expertise in the profession when appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Annual Giving.


Minimum Qualifications:

Education

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
• Valid driver's license required.

Experience

• 3+ years of experience in education organization of comparable complexity and scale preferred. • Understanding of data and how to analyze for application and results.
• Experience in volunteer management or supervision preferred.
• Experience in program development preferred.
• Experience in event management preferred.

Skills and Knowledge

• Excellent communication (written, verbal and presentation) skills.
• Keen attention to detail necessary for successful documentation, planning and execution.
• Impeccable organizational skills and ability to coordinate resources and staff within the college community.
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills; ability to synthesize complex or diverse information.
• Ability to write concise, logical, analytical reports to convey complex issues. Lead group discussions.
• Strong interpersonal skills with ability to develop and maintain collegial relationships.
• Must be flexible, collaborative and have a positive attitude.
• Ability to remain composed, friendly and demonstrate poise under stress while working in a deadline driven environment.
• Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
• Strong presentation skills and ability to develop dynamic presentations.
• Proficiency in basic data management systems and basic computer software (e.g., Microsoft Word and Excel, Power Point, Google docs, email and calendaring.)
• Willingness and ability to learn additional applications as needed.
• Ability and willingness to travel (by car, air, train, or bus) domestically and internationally as needed.
• Ability and willingness to work weekends, evenings, and other non-traditional schedules.
