Job Description:

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Outstationing Advisor will serve as a proactive liaison between the Adult Education Center of Cape Cod Community College (AEC) and the Hyannis MassHire Career Center, to provide two-way referrals for adult Cape & Islands students who want to earn a high school credential and then complete job training and/or attend college. This part time position will work closely with AEC and MassHire directors to develop and monitor procedures to determine how adult students are identified and connected to employment and/or training opportunities at MassHire, or higher education opportunities at Cape Cod Community College. The Outstationing Advisor will be stationed at the MassHire location for 8 hours per week over 2 days, and 1 night a week at the Hyannis Center (days to TBD), and will schedule, communicate, and maintain posted hours. This position must also follow up with students as they either enroll in adult education classes or are placed on a waiting list and will also maintain accurate records of MassHire services provided to adult ABE students, and include all collected data in in quarterly and year-end report s/he will write for our funder. Classes and related activities will be face-to-face (F2F)/in-person for the 2021-2022 Academic Year. Advisors will be required to pivot to remote advising if health concerns warrant a change.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  1. Provide accurate and comprehensive information about the MassHire Career Center services by attending F2F or remote orientations and workshops on workforce preparation topics, including networking, labor market information, interviewing skills, resume writing.
  2. Connect eligible Cape & Islands Adult Education students looking for employment and/or training opportunities with the MassHire Career Center. Connect eligible Cape & Islands Adult Education students looking for higher education opportunities to CCCC Transitional Education PACT Program.
  3. Assist the MassHire career center staff with intake, assessment, and referral of eligible adult students to Adult Education programs.
  4. Attend monthly F2F or remote AEC and MassHire staff meetings and participate in ongoing local and statewide DESE/ACLS professional development training and conferences suggested by AEC and MassHire program directors.
  5. Organize and document ongoing F2F or remote follow up with adult students to ensure customers either enroll in classes or are placed on a waiting list.
  6. Maintain accurate records of "shared customer" intakes, referrals, assessments, student goals, field trips, and other services provided to students, and include this data in quarterly and year-end reports to our funder, and the MassHire and AEC directors.
  7. Develop and monitor strategic procedures and joint marketing materials with AEC and MassHire directors to identify, connect with, and refer eligible Cape & Islands adult "shared customers" to appropriate services.
  8. Disseminate information about MassHire Career Center services to Cape & Islands adult education programs by making F2F or remote presentations, organizing informational trips to MassHire hosting webinars, or e-mailing information to ABE programs about career center events and services.
  9. Disseminate information about CCCC certificate programs or 2 year academic programs of study to students in Cape & Islands adult education programs preparing for employment in job sectors that require a college degree by making presentations, organizing informational trips to CCCC, hosting webinars, or emailing information to ABE programs about CCCC events and services.
  10. Ongoing collaboration with Adult Education Center Career Navigators to plan in-person or virtual guest speakers with morning and evening students at the Hyannis Center.



Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor's degree in counseling, student services, career counseling, adult basic education, ESOL studies or a related discipline.
  2. Three years of experience working with Adult Learners with demonstrated ability to relate to the needs, interests, and success of adult students enrolled in Adult Basic Education, English as a Second Language classes, GED, and HiSET courses.
  3. Demonstrated experience working with multicultural adult students.
  4. Outstanding communication skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate.
  5. Superior problem-solving skills.
  6. Exceptional time management skills and demonstrated proficiency in multitasking.
  7. One year of demonstrated experience advising and teaching students remotely via Zoom.
  8. Commitment to facilitating adult student success.
  9. Familiarity with MassHire Career Center, CCCC, and Cape Cod social service agencies.
  10. Demonstrated experience using information technology including entering and manipulating information in a database format, and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  11. Available to work one evening a week to meet with adult night school students.
  12. Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.

Additional Information:

COMPENSATION : $28.50 per hour for 10.5 hours per week, including 2 hours per month for AEC staff meetings and 12 hours per year of paid face-to-face or remote professional development. Approximate period of employment: August 2021 - June 30, 2022. Part-time, Non-benefited, Grant-funded MCCC Unit Position.
