Status: Exempt

Purpose:

Assist the Head Coach with (1) the recruitment of prospective student athletes, (2) provide input and instruction with the development of the Cross Country and Track & Field program, and (3) various duties assigned by the Head Coach

Duties:

Recruitment of prospective student athletes:

  • Research and identify prospective student athletes to input into a spreadsheet and maintain/update weekly for recruiting reports
  • Develop relationships with prospective student athletes and stay in contact with them on a regular basis
  • Develop relationships with area high school and club coaches and stay in contact with them on a regular basis
  • Communicate effectively with various campus offices in relation to coordinating recruiting efforts
  • Pass yearly NCAA DIII rules exam
  • Maintain current knowledge and abide by NCAA/HCAC rules, policies, procedures
  • Other recruiting duties as assigned


Provide input and instruction with the development of the Cross Country and Track & Field program:

  • Assist with advising students on their academic progress
  • Provide input in determining fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques for Cross Country and Track & Field
  • Instruct student athletes for specific events and overall team development and needs
  • Assist with instructing student athletes in the rules and fundamentals of Cross Country and Track & Field events
  • Maintain current knowledge of topics related to physical health, team concepts, and safety
  • Be familiar with the rules in the MSJ Student Handbook
  • Assist with weight room supervision
  • Supervise open gymnasium as needed and as permitted by NCAA Bylaws for safety purposes.
  • Assist with inventory and issuing of equipment
  • Other Cross Country and Track & Field program duties as assigned

  • Assist with branding and social media
  • Assist with meet management
  • Assist with the supervision of student workers
  • Be familiar with the rules in the MSJ Employee Handbook and abide by all rules
  • Demonstrate integrity and uphold the values and mission of the University
  • Committee assignments and other duties appropriate to skills and training as assigned by supervisors
  • Contribute to team effort by welcoming new and different work requirements; exploring new opportunities to enhance the services of the division; helping others accomplish related job results as and where needed
  • Support the total athletic program

Department Director, coaching staff, Athletic Training staff, Recreation Coordinators, Coordinator of Athletic and Recreation Facilities, Director of Strength and Conditioning, Administrative Assistant, student employees, Student Affairs staff, Admission staff, prospective students and families, enrolled students, Registrar, Faculty Athletic Representative, and other members of the University community as well as the local and outside community. Qualifications

Education:

Bachelors degree Experience:

Recruiting and Coaching College and/or High School Track & Field (Sprints/Jumps/Hurdles preferred) A demonstrated ability and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Specialized Training:

Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs, computer, camera, recording devices, copier, weight training equipment, track & field equipment; and First Aid, CPR, and AED certification and a valid drivers license Skills/Attributes Customer Service:

Work Environment, Physical Demands:

Standing or sitting for long periods, computer data input, multiple concurrent tasks with service interruptions, extensive customer contact, strict confidentiality, detailed work, ability to work nights and weekends, travel, and driving a University van when necessary
