Purpose and Scope

The Success Emporium Director is responsible for leading the Emporium team and directing the services and support activities provided through the college Success Emporium.  The director leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of integrated plans and strategies designed for student learning and success, recruitment, advisement and retention of students.  The director serves as Assistant Director of Adult Education supervising the college’s efforts to support low-skilled adults in entry-level programs.  Specifically, the Success Emporium delivers a co-teaching model called Integrated Basic Education Skills and Training (I-BEST), targeted developmental and adult education programs, tutoring support labs, and High School Equivalency (HSE) courses.  The position is responsible for developing assessment processes for Emporium services and implementing modifications, additions, and changes to Emporium strategies and procedures, to improve student success and support College and Adult Education enrollment, retention, and completion goals.  The director oversees all student support activities, such as recruitment events, official college functions, special projects, and outreach to external audiences for the primary purpose of recruiting and retaining students.  The director also works directly with students, as needed, to provide I-BEST instruction, academic advising, registration, and counsel regarding financial aid and scholarship options.  This 12-month position is jointly funded by the College and an Adult Education grant, and reports to the Vice President of Student Learning and Success.

 General Duties and Responsibilities:

Typical duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead and supervise Success Emporium services, operations, procedures, and staff.
  • Ensure department staff understand all functions of the Success Emporium in order to provide excellent customer service within a team environment.
  • Coordinate service and staff schedules for basic skills support labs, high school equivalency labs and classes, I-BEST instruction, academic/career advisement and registration, financial aid, recruitment, scholarship counseling, and all other services of the Emporium.
  • Ensure Emporium staff maintain knowledge of all ENMU-Ruidoso academic and non-credit programs.
  • Coordinate cross-training throughout department.
  • Lead collaboration efforts with faculty and Success Emporium staff to share best practices, curriculum, operational issues, etc.
  • Prepares and manages Emporium related budgets.
  • Participate in faculty, college-wide, and/or other meetings and functions.
  • Direct registration, academic advising, and financial aid efforts (including VA benefits) within the Success Emporium.
  • Coordinate the Dual Credit with public schools including recruitment and course offerings.
  • Direct Adult Education instruction including High School Equivalency, English as a Second Language, Basic Skills, I-Best and Tutoring on campus and satellite locations.
  • Responsible semi and annual Adult Education reporting.
  • Maintain familiarity with community resources employment resources available at New Mexico Workforce Connections, and share information about these resources regularly with staff.
  • Serve as Campus Testing Center Administrator.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 Knowledge, Skills, Experience

Required:

  • Master’s Degree in education, distance education, leadership, training, or a related field.
  • Three years of total related experience, including one year of coordination and/or supervision.
  • Two years of experience teaching, preferably in developmental English, reading, or math; or equivalent teaching experience in Adult Education at a Community College.

 Preferred: 

  • Additional years of experience teaching.
  • Additional experience in leadership, supervision, or coordination role.
  • Experience in college student success programs, working with or supporting college students.
  • Experience with curriculum development and student advising.
  • Experience using Banner.
  • Experience using a learning management system for higher education environments and/or creating web-based instructional and supplemental materials.
  • Bi-lingual capabilities in Spanish.
  • Experience with use of standardized assessments.
  • Prior experience co-teaching in an I-BEST program.
  • Experience working in a community college.
  • Experience in a multi-college or multi-campus college system, preferably community college.

 Complexity/Effort:

Job requires leadership ability and critical thinking skills, ability to meet deadlines, to work independently and in a team environment.  Sets and manages priorities for accomplishing work and resolves problems based on previous experience.  Position requires working effectively with various groups on various tasks. 

 Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

Work is sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.  Work is performed during normal business hours, with some evenings and weekends to meet deadlines.
