Job Description:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Department of Cultural, Environmental, and Global Studies (CEGS) at Salve Regina University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Sociology position starting September 1, 2022. We seek a colleague with expertise and interest in teaching, research and advising undergraduates in a joint Sociology/Anthropology major and with specialization in race and ethnic relations. Secondary areas of teaching and research interest in urban/rural sociology, quantitative methods, environmental sociology and immigration are also encouraged. Our curriculum is aligned with the mission of Salve Regina University that prioritizes social justice, stewardship of the earth, and principled problem-solving.

The department offers majors in Sociology/Anthropology, Environmental Studies, and Global Studies and administers minors in these fields and in Food Studies and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. With an emphasis on interdisciplinarity, department members teach courses to all CEGS majors in our integrated departmental core curriculum, the University's honors program, and its First-Year Seminar program.

The successful candidate will teach departmental courses in The Sociological Imagination, Race and Ethnic Relations, and Social Theory and develop courses in the candidate's area of expertise. Department members are expected to sustain a program of scholarship in the field. There are opportunities to develop and lead short-term study abroad courses and to collaborate on projects and participatory action research with colleagues, students, and community partners. All faculty members mentor and advise students in the major. The teaching load is 3/3 with additional commitments to scholarship and service.


Requirements:
  • A Ph.D. in Sociology earned prior to start date and strong undergraduate teaching experience is required.
  • We will prioritize candidates with interest in community engaged teaching and scholarship and with a commitment to social justice.
