The School of Theatre and Entertainment Arts offers a dynamic range of production-related courses in performing and entertainment arts. From theatre to theme parks and live events, the School’s professionally-orientated programmes are designed to prepare students for exciting careers in entertainment and cultural industries.  In addition to its MFA, BFA, Diploma and Certificate Programmes in Set and Costume Design, Costume Technology, Property Making, Scenic Art, Lighting Design and Technology, Sound Design and Technology, Music Production, Stage & Event Management and Technical Direction; recognising today’s and tomorrow’s needs for top production crew by local and regional entertainment companies, the School also offers fast track intensive courses.

The Dean is expected to lead the development and implementation of the overall vision and academic development of the School.  He/She will work closely with senior staff to promote innovative developments in the delivery of performing arts education, with a particular focus on the Academy’s unique strengths, including its location in a dynamic and diverse cultural metropolis, and its focus on interdisciplinary collaboration and original creativity. He/she will also play an important role in the development of local, regional and international partnerships, building upon existing strengths and developing new areas that support the overall growth and positioning of the School.

Subject to negotiation, the preferred commencement date is January 2022.

The Person
The successful candidate should have a track record as a leading expert in the field of theatre and live entertainment and production arts.  He/she should also possess the following attributes:
(a)    Strong academic background, preferably with knowledge of practice-as-research
(b)    Strong track record of teaching and scholarly achievement
(c)    Demonstrated record of successful academic, artistic and administrative accomplishment within an educational institution
(d)    A successful track record of leadership within an educational institution or similar performing arts-based organisation, including evidence of an innovative approach to programme management and development
(e)    Solid knowledge of trends and developments in performing arts education, as well as an in-depth understanding of its role within a performing arts and conservatoire context and a strong vision for the School and its future development
(f)    High level interpersonal and communication skills
(g)    Evidence of successful outcomes in building productive partnerships among tertiary institutions, industry, and community groups
(h)    A willingness and enthusiasm to embrace, lead and manage change

Appointment will be made on a four-year renewable contract with 15% end of contract gratuity. Fringe benefits include leave, medical, and dental benefits. Housing subsidy will be provided to the eligible appointee. The current standard rate of income tax in Hong Kong is 15%.
