Job Summary
(Golf Course Mechanic) This position is responsible for a comprehensive preventative maintenance program on all golf course maintenance equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Perform related duties as assigned to support the mission of the University
  • Keep records of parts and labor needed to maintain equipment; place orders for parts and supplies needed for equipment and service at the direction of the Golf Course Superintendent
  • Proficient with computers and computer applications
  • Set up and modify equipment
  • Repair and adjust engines and cutting mechanisms on heavy and light mowing equipment
  • Sharpen mowers with grinders
  • Maintain preventative maintenance schedules
  • Inspect equipment on course
  • Maintain and utilize risk management best practices; and industry standards
  • Assist with department and/or facility special events
  • Serve on University and departmental work teams and committees
  • Perform experiments and report findings on environmental consequences of equipment, tools, and procedures
  • Communicate needs or problems relating to maintenance or repair of equipment with the Golf Course Superintendent
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical defects/failures in various golf course maintenance equipment including diesel, electric, and gasoline powered equipment

Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Required Experience
  • Two or more years of related work experience

Preferred Qualifications
Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • One year certificate from college or technical school, or 1 year related experience or training

Preferred Experience
  • Experience within a University golf course setting
  • Experience in administrative tasks
  • Effective problem solving and decision making skills

Proposed Salary
$16.01 - $18.27 per hour

  • Working knowledge of light and heavy maintenance equipment and automotive apparatuses; and general operation of gasoline, diesel and electric powered equipment, the proper methods of servicing golf course equipment, and the repair and adjustment of power mowing equipment
  • Working knowledge of light and heavy maintenance equipment and automotive apparatuses
  • Working knowledge of the theory, care, and operation of internal combustion engines and mowing equipment
  • Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the profession

SKILLS
  • Demonstrate commitment to inclusiveness by working well with diverse populations
  • Proven proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office, Google, and/or applications as required for specific position
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated organizational and human relation skills
  • Skilled in the use of a variety of equipment repair tools, and the making of various types of mechanical repair
