About the Opportunity:
The main mission of the Academic Advisor is to ensure a
student-centered academic advising environment for students in
specified departments in the College. As members of the undergraduate
in the College, the academic advisors work
closely with each other under the direct supervision of the
Director of Academic Advising to do the following:
- Advise undergraduates on a wide range of academic issues as
students move from their first year through graduation;
- Maintain accurate advising and student records;
- Coordinate various student services-related projects aimed at
providing academic support and information to students.
In addition, advisors work in partnership with faculty mentors and
chairs in their academic departments/programs to develop advising
support initiatives that will enhance the quality of students'
academic experience and increase retention of students.
Masters degree in an arts and sciences or education-related field
required. Previous experience in higher education is preferred.
Strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal communication
(both verbal and written) are necessary. Computer skills and
experience in working with databases desirable. Ability to learn
and effectively utilize the College and University-level computer
systems in day-to-day advising is necessary. Ability to work well
with a variety of personalities and to juggle many activities
simultaneously, take initiative, and follow through with projects.
Ability and desire to create programming aimed at retention of CSSH
students. Ability to work independently and desire and ability to
work as an integral member of a team is necessary.
