Assistant Director - Programming & Education

About Northeastern:
Founded in 1898, Northeastern is a global research university and the recognized leader in experience-driven lifelong learning. Our world-renowned experiential approach empowers our students, faculty, alumni, and partners to create impact far beyond the confines of discipline, degree, and campus.

Our locations—in Boston; Charlotte, North Carolina; London; Portland, Maine; San Francisco; Seattle; Silicon Valley; Toronto; Vancouver; and the Massachusetts communities of Burlington and Nahant—are nodes in our growing global university system. Through this network, we expand opportunities for flexible, student-centered learning and collaborative, solutions-focused research.

Northeastern's comprehensive array of undergraduate and graduate programs— in a variety of on-campus and online formats—lead to degrees through the doctorate in nine colleges and schools. Among these, we offer more than 195 multi-discipline majors and degrees designed to prepare students for purposeful lives and careers.

About the Opportunity:
The Assistant Director will support the programming and education operations of Off Campus Housing and Support Services (OCHSS), which supports Northeastern University learners living off campus or beyond Boston while in class, on co-op, and/or participating in co-curricular beyond Boston experiences. The Assistant Director is an integral part of the OCHSS team and will be responsible for the planning, development and execution of curated community building and educational programs intended to allow Northeastern students to have a successful off-campus experience.

Responsibilities:
The Assistant Director assists in the creation and execution of OCHSS programs that provide expertise in housing, education on tenant rights and responsibilities, building and maintaining a sense of community, and creating a network for students wherever they are learning. Educational efforts will include topics on housing in Boston and beyond, rights and responsibilities, and knowledge of off-campus living. Programming efforts will enhance learners' experience living off-campus or beyond Boston, keep learners connected to their peers and Northeastern on-site programs, provide opportunities to personalize networks across boundaries through alumni engagement and networking, facilitate community and civic engagement opportunities, and create smooth transition opportunities as learners move in and out of experiences. The Assistant Director will provide direct support to the Associate Director of Programming and Education regarding OCHSS signature programs, Beyond Boston programs, Community Ambassador student staff, marketing and promotional materials, and developing newsletter and social media content.

The Assistant Director will be responsible for the supervision of the Beyond Boston Instagram account, volunteer program, program assessments and logistics. Responsibilities will also include attending tabling events, creating and giving presentations at orientation and other welcome events on behalf of the office. The Assistant Director will provide high quality customer support and expert advice to students, parents, faculty and staff in search of safe, affordable off campus housing in the Boston area and beyond. She/He/They will advise students and parents with questions and concerns pertaining to renter's rights, landlord/tenant rights, and off-campus responsibilities, as well as manage the Lease Genius program and review leases in conjunction with the Assistant Director of Housing in OCHSS.

The Assistant Director will support and report to the Associate Director of Programming and Education and the Director of OCHSS. The Assistant Director will collaborate with the offices of Student Affairs, Housing, Alumni Relations, Employer Engagement and Career Design, City and Community Engagement, Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution and other University departments to support the work of OCHSS.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Student Personnel or related field, Masters preferred.
3-5 years of work experience in student affairs, event planning and/or related field.
Comprehensive understanding of student development research and theories.
Strong customer service focus, communication, writing skills, and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Experience working in a diverse, fast-paced, student-centered service environment.
Innovative problem-solving ability.
Well-developed interpersonal and presentation/public speaking skills.
Ability to collaborate with stakeholders and work positively and productively with parents, faculty, staff and community members.
Good working knowledge of MS Office programs (Word, Excel, and Publisher), Adobe Suite, Social Media, and web-based marketing programs.
Must be available to work some night, weekend, and holiday coverage as needed.
